Day 355 - Day 358

August 28 - August 31, 2010

I'm not going to lie. I'm kind of excited for my one year of blogging to almost be over. I have been horrible about writing. I've been a little under the weather, hence the no blog.

Saturday, one of my childhood friends got married. Aaron, whom I've known since I was a baby married a wonderful girl who actually graduated with my brother. Small world, huh?? Congratulations you guys! You are both so amazing and I wish you nothing but happiness and a life full of love!

It was awful that I was stuck here, while everyone I love was in Iowa celebrating such a fantastic day. I miss all of you and wish I could have been there! My grandma had this to say, "You could just tell he was crazy about her! He rubbed her hands the whole time they were standing there. He even cried." Ugh! That's so sweet! You both are so lucky to have each other--I love it! ;)

I tell ya' what. These category storms, or whatever they call them down here are really getting on my nerves. It rains everyday! Sunday, it poured all day and all night! It was crazy! I think we're on Fiona or something of the sort.

I had to call in sick to work again on Monday because I felt like hell. You should have seen me. My boss tried to make me feel better saying, "No, you look beautiful." My response, "No, I look like I just got hit by a Mack truck! It's okay. You don't have to make me feel better." =) I didn't even look in the mirror the rest of the day. Yea. Not good.

Now, I'm going to bed because for some reason, I cannot seem to get better. And I have a big week ahead of me! It's Labor Day! Sunday, our company is putting on a glow-in-the-dark fashion show. Sounds pretty cool, huh?? I'm really excited for it! Thank God we don't have to work on Monday! My plan--sleep all day. Nothing else.

Note to self: Making irresponsible decisions is not the best thing someone can do. You should probably think things through before diving into a situation full force. Although it is fun to be carefree about life, sometimes the outcomes are not always as rewarding as you had first hoped. Be smart.

Day 346

August 19, 2010

I'm extremely off with my counting. Whatever.

Today was a fun day at work! We had the cultural lunch I was telling you about. Want to see what I made??

Doesn't it look yummy? I can't give the recipe. It's a secret concoction of four different ingredients! ;) But aren't you impressed with the flag??

Since my dish isn't really "cultural," I turned it into one by adding the Hawkeye flag and dubbing my dip as "Iowa Traditional Tailgating" dip.

Pretty clever huh?? Everyone got a kick out of it! The food was amazing! We had food from the Philippines, Italy, Israel, Venezuela, Pakistan and France! Oooohhhh, you know it's a good day at the office when there's a table full of food involved! Then I'm pretty sure I was in a food coma the rest of the day!

My plan tonight was to come straight home and crawl into bed. I think I'm getting sick (it's going around down here). Well, it's not 11:10 and I'm still awake. I've been working on my one-year anniversary blog and it really has me in a trance. I haven't even watched one lick of television!

I thought of another title this week for the book I would one day love to write. But I'm not telling. It's a good one and I don't want anyone taking it!

Have you noticed I changed my background once again. I want to do something custom, but don't know how. These colors are really starting to bore me!

This is my response to my friend's e-mail today after she said, "GO Hawks!"

Me: Oh how the corn fields are kissed with kernels against the sunlight; how the air is filled with the wonderful aroma of hog and cow dung across the fields I like to call home; and how the natives wear mullets and spit tobacco as a decent way to pick up women. This is Iowa. And it's where I'm from. You're in God's Country now!

It's not the exact words. The original is way funnier, but I deleted the e-mail. I'm going to try and get the original tomorrow.

Last weekend of the fair. Anyone have plans?? I heard the REO Speedwagon concert was INsane!

I got asked this question today at work. She was not trying to be funny, but we were on the subject of beef jerkey. "Is that roadkill?" Hmmm....no. It may be if you were in Alabama or Mississippi. Not Iowa. We try and stick with pork, chicken, beef. You know. The essential fatty meats. =) I suppose if Uncle Earl sees a fox or coon on the side of the road, he may pick it up for an appetizer or something. But that rarely happens--only on special occasions. ;)

I really think people are starting to believe I live under a rock. No, I don't eat squirrel. My backyard is not full of corn (or potatoes) as many say. Those people are idiots. Idaho/Iowa. I guess I could see it, but come on. Daddy doesn't own a tractor. My daddy doesn't even know how to start the lawn mower! ;) Love you, dad! Mom's not slavin' over a hot stove in a floral-print apron with curlers in her hair. Our families fancy--we go to Applebee's right up the street for our dinner! ;)

Operation: BootyBuster goes into effect this weekend! I will be burning off my buttocks. How, you ask? I have no dang clue! All I know is, I'm going to start. I know I keep saying that, but this time is true. It's not right when your body stops moving, but your butt keeps jiggling. Okay, I'm not that bad, but you cringed for a second when I said that!

You know what I was wondering the other day? Okay, I went to that psychic and he told me that I don't know the person I'm going to marry. Have no clue who he is. But what if it's my best guy friend from back home? I don't see him in that way, but what if it's like in the movies? Guy and girl are best friends since Kindergarten, they grow up, date other people, don't see each other for a couple of years, then fall in love. Wouldn't that be crazy?? Greg, I'm sorry, but you are like my big brother. But just think...our families would be ecstatic, Steve and Sherry may dance in circles and you would be right all along.

Greg and I decided, if that ever happened, we would submit our story to be made into a TLC or Lifetime movie. Or he'll be a groomsmen in my wedding--that's a definite!

I'm going to sleep.

Note to self: Realizing that an ingredient in your Yoplait yogurt has similar effects to a person with ADD may be the reason you can't focus on a daily basis. Once you have consumed this aspertime-oriented ingredient, you're screwed. Kiss all your patience and attention out the window.

If in need of a snack, be hasty when picking up that little plastic of flavored, live organisms. Sounds gross right? But that's what it is! Makes me want to gag a little bit.

But if you get the Strawberry Cheesecake, it doesn't make you gag at all!

Day I Don't Know

August 12, 2010

I have spent the last hour trying to re-arrange these dang numbers that I messed up basically from the beginning of my blogging. I'm over it. I'll finish it later.

Moving on. I have a new nickname at work. Guess what it is. Farrah. I sent a couple of photos today to our creative director for our company's website--in the "Staff" section, it has my picture and a brief bio. So, I submitted the following photos:

This is the e-mail that gets sent around the office:

"It totally looks like her!"

Ah geeze! Lol! I guess I can kind of see it, but in real life...heck no! I wish I looked like her on a daily basis!

We went to a Miami Dolphins pep rally tonight in Mizner Park. Such a bummer because the football players weren't there! Who has a pep rally without a team?!? Makes no sense. There weren't really any games, a couple of food vendors and not really any media. Football season is HUGE and it would have been so great if this could have been a major bang! Oh well. I'm still planning on going to some games! =) GO Dolphins!

Then we went to a restaurant in Mizner for Happy Hour! Considering I won't be able to make it back for the Iowa State Fair, which I'm NOT happy about in the least bit, I had a "Boca Lemonade." Let me tell ya', I was pretty impressed. Nothing beats State Fair lemonade, but this fulfilled the need pretty well. It was made with Absolout Pear, pink lemonade and something else I can't remember.

Tomorrow's going to be fun! We're going to Delray for the Tastemaker's event! It's really cool. You buy this "passport" for $25. Then you walk to 24 different restaurants on Atlantic Avenue to so-called "countries" and you get a sample of food and a glass of wine! I've officially dubbed it the, "Atlantic Chow and Chug Crawl!" Food and wine, 24 restaurants, 1 good time! ;)

O'ANNA download those pictures from your trip! ;)

Hey! If you're not following me on Twitter, I suggest you do so! I love it and I have so much fun doing it! My name is "AshToncar." I'm trying to start tweeting more often, but it gets hard because I don't have a Blackberry! I need one! That's my next investment.

Here's the thing. I love to travel. If I could be a professional traveler, I would do it. My problem is I get too many ideas in my head of places to go and things to do. I neither have the time or money to possibly get everything done. Just within the last two hours, I've decided we need to go to Vegas, Wisconsin to visit one of my best friends, Kansas City, New York City, Minnesota, North Carolina and Wyoming.

So many places. So little time.

Note to self: Coffee drinkers have more sex than non-coffee drinkers.

Thank you iTweetFact for this encouraging statement. However, there's one problem. Why is it that everytime I walk into a Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Einstein Bagles, etc...I'm the only person under the age of 70? If this statement is true, WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?! =)

What's in someone else's coffee that I need to put in mine? ;) Please let me know! Viagra? Liquor? I could easily access all of these possibilities. Just a little "oops, I'm sorry" drop of a little somethin'-somethin' to the cutie behind me at Palm Beach Bagel could make for one great day! Okay, just kidding, but thought this was funny.

Good night!

Day 333

August 3, 2010

Happy Birthday Brett!!! My little brother is 22 years old today!!! Holy cow, that's old! ;) I am so proud of the man he has become and I'm excited to see all of the great things he will be doing with his life! I wish I could have been in St. Louie to celebrate with him, but unfortunately I'm in the real world now.

It sucks. I hate reality. I worked 14 hours today! Whan, whan! I know. I did it to myself. I'm not complaining in the least bit because I love my nighttime job!

I have a question: Is it bad if someone is never satisfied? That enough is never enough? That they always look for something more or want more?

I don't know what to tell these people. I think it could go either way.

Note to self: Take advantage of Miami Spice. What's Miami Spice, you ask? It's similar to New York's restaurant week. But in Miami, it's two whole months! Take advantage of the fancy restaurants' delicious dishes for only a $35 prix fixe meal! Yum-O! Go as much as your pocket book will allow!

Day 318 - Day 321

July 16 - July 19, 2010

I have become extremely lazy with my blogging! Apologies don't even cut it anymore. I've decided to do another video blog about the weekend.

I do want to post other things on my blog. You will see me say things about Twitter. I love it! Check out some of the great things I found on there today! (This is just a tini-tiny sampling...as new "tweets" are posted every second!)

Top Secret America-Find out where your local governments are hiding! ;)
Tweets to TV- Could be me someday! =)
Age Calculator- What's your emotional age? I'm 23.85! Whew hew!
Feed Your Appetite- What you should be eating!

If you don't have Twitter, you should get it! I can't believe how addicting it is, but you will become a real news junkie!

So, now I'm SO irritated! I spent almost TWO HOURS getting this video to upload and then YouTube decides to tell me after the process is over that it can only be so long. Excuse me, YouTube, I've seen things on there that go for an hour and a half! You're going to tell me my little video is too long?

Ugh! So, I don't have one for you today because it's too late for me to start ALL over...jacks!

I'll have it for you tomorrow.

Have a good day tomorrow!

Day 303 - Day 304

July 1 - July 2, 2010

Happy July! It's summertime! Enjoy my favorite summer song here! It gets me fired up to come home and hang out with my friends! Whew! ;)

So, yesterday I did not get home until about 1a.m. We had another grand opening of a really hot mexican restaurant on Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach. Have you ever heard of Cabo Wabo Tequila?? I hadn't, but apparently it compares and competes with Patron. I'm not a tequila person--I think it's disgusting and this is what happens to me. Watch here...

Okay, totally kidding! ;) Anyways, the party was so much fun! It led to some pretty hilarious conversations.

So, I'm driving to the event, talking to Brett when I interrupt with, "Oh my God, Brett! I found the place that sells chicken 'n waffles!" Please tell me you know what chicken 'n waffles are. If you don't, please don't talk to me. I was so disappointed that only one of my family members knows what this is. Ugh! It's not even American to now know this crazy combination of deliciousness!

For those who don't know (which I'm ashamed, but I can forgive)...it's fried chicken and waffles together. Yes...together. So anyways, we're at the party and I mention something about it to the crowd of people we were talking to. All of them from Florida, except one other person from Champagne, Illinois. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy!

"You're from the south!" I said. "You should definitely know what chicken 'n waffles are!" It's the All-American southern food! I swear in a previous life I was born and raised in Georgia or North Carolina on a farm, or I was African American. The only other person who knew what chicken 'n waffles was the person from Illinois! Way to go Midwesterners knowing your food!

My friend says, "So...do you eat them for breakfast?" Oh, how you have so much to learn. "No, you can eat them any time of day!" I say.

Someone else, "So, do you pour syrup on them?"
Me: "Of course you do! It's the perfect combo of salty and sweet!"

Someone else: "Before you know it, they'll have drive-thru liquor stores!"
Me: "Actually, they have those in Iowa!"

Everyone died laughing! Hahahaha! Of course Iowa would! Such a coincidence they would bring that up!

We got to go in the office late again today! I love nights we work late...that means I get to watch Regis and Kelly in the morning! So, I get to work and I think to myself, Whew it's hot in here! Well, that's because the air conditioner was broken. You think Iowa's hot in the summer? Ha! It's twice as bad down here! Our office was literally 87 degrees. Awful. We were all sweating, falling asleep at our desks, and basically just zombies lurking the cubicles.

Our boss let us leave early! Awesome way to start the vaca! We go for lunch at JB's on the Beach. It's an awesome place in Deerfield that overlooks the ocean! Beautiful! The ocean says hello, by the way! ;) I order fish tacos. Since I've moved down here, it's become my new favorite food! It's such a light dish, but perfectly filling. I love the texture and saltiness of the fish, but the sweet and spicy flavors that go into the mango salsa (sometimes they use papaya or pineapple). Delicious! You must try them!

So, I got another part-time job today! It's at the same restaurant I worked at in NYC! I'm so excited! I loved working there and it's a great way to meet new people! The manager asks if it's too much that I work full-time and part-time. Heck no! This will create a little more excitement in my life! He doesn't know me yet and the fact I get bored in .2 seconds.

It's thunder-storming here tonight, which I actually love--they don't scare me as bad as they used to. It's such a cool night out and a perfect one to just relax and get ready for my drive tomorrow to Orlando. Yea, I'm leaving from Orlando which sucks because it's three hours away, but I'm saving almost $350! Crazy right?? It's well worth the drive!

Maybe I'll stop at Disneyworld or Islands of Adventure. Or I'll stop in and see Shamu! Oh so many options! My parents are taking a week in September--we should totally go then, don't you think?? And my parents are so much fun to go to theme parks with! They ride everything! Done deal. No more contemplating. Now I just have to tell them that's how it's going to be. ;)

So, I'm proud of my mom today. She got Facebook (which I swore I would never let happen, but it's okay!) and today she posted her first status. Want to know what it said? "Both of my kids are home for the holiday weekend. SUPER excited. Haven't seen them in weeks/months!" Awww...it's so sweet! I love it! I'm just as excited! I pretty much already have my whole weekend planned. Tomorrow starts with hanging out with the family and then seeing the ever-exciting Eclipse! Ahhhhhhhhh, I can't wait! It's going to be amazing! Are you Team Jacob or Team Edward? I'm definitely Team Jacob now. He's so....I don't know....perfect!

The fourth book is really interesting. A lot of things happened that I didn't expect, but I suppose I'm not shocked. Ugh, I can't believe I've fallen into the Twilight craze. Listen to me. I sound like a teenager. It's completely mindless reading, but it's so enticing!

So, the other day I go to log into my Google e-mail account. It wouldn't let me on. It said my password wouldn't work and I had to enter my phone number to get a special code. My heart sank. I've known people to hack into others' e-mail accounts and delete them! Yea, people are crazy?! ;)

I freaked! A big portion of my life is on that thing! Someone hacked into it and decided to send Canadian medical e-mails to every. single. person. I've ever e-mailed. Grandma got an e-mail about female Viagra! Yep. So, people that I e-mailed while working at BHG, friends, family, whoever got Viagra e-mails and God knows what else. So, if you were one of these people...I apologize. Some crazy person thought it would be funny. It's really funny, actually. But not when some of these people are big wigs at New York City companies!

Okay, so I'm one of those people who bought something, wore it, then returned it. Is that bad?? I don't think so. It was just a bracelet. I took the stretchy tag off, wore it last Saturday, put the tag back on and took it back. No harm done. The bracelet was $60! Are you nuts?! I'm cheap! I don't even spend $60 on a dress or pair of shoes! I can't justify it. Like Brett says, if it's not $2 or $100,000, "she doesn't want it."

It happens.

Since moving here, I've really gotten into DJ's. They are so hot down here! I'm not talking about their looks--the music and mixes they come up with are amazing! My friend listens to this guy, DJ Cha Chi. Check out his website. I don't know if you've heard of him, but he has awesome mixes! I Googled him and found some mixes on YouTube. Since it's live taping, parts sound a little weird because of the base. Check them out below!

Mur.Mur. Mix
Shrine
Show Me a Virgin Mix

I recommend you go to his website and download his mixes onto iTunes. It's free! I love how he incorporates old school and new school! It fascinates me how he works on the computer and on the turn tables. So cool! I could watch it all day!

Heads up: I probably won't be blogging this weekend while I'm home. In fact, I know I won't. Check back Wednesday night. I get back to Florida on Tuesday, but not until about 11:45 p.m.

Happy 4th of July! Have a fantastic weekend! Enjoy lots of fireworks! I LOVE fireworks! They just make you feel like a kid again. All of the Oohs and Aahs! So magical!

Note to self: "God Bless America. My Home Sweet Home." Remember this 4th of July the thousands of American troops who have died and risked their lives so our country can be just a little normal. With all of the craziness of war and politics, it's very rare that people stop and really look at what our troops go through for us.

Watch this video. KISS performed for our soldiers. It makes you proud of these men and women. You don't know them, but the undeniable amount of respect we have for these people is incredible. America is truly an amazing country, filled with so many great people. Unfortunately, America is quickly becoming something completely different. It's sad to know we are conforming so much to other countries and losing our identity in the process. We are fighting for our freedom, but our culture is being diminished. I think culture is great, however, I still think we need to keep America's culture. If we don't stop the irresponsible immigration, then America will no longer be America. We'll have to call it: Amerimexifranadiagypt.

Watch video here.

Day 301 - Day 302

June 29 - June 30, 2010

I apologize for my late blogging...again...

Tuesday, I didn't do a dang thing. I talked to a friend from back home and then my brother, then went to sleep. I was literally in bed by 9:30! It was fantastic! I caught up on some reading and just relaxed, with my mind not thinking of a thing!

So, I'm talking to my brother and can't believe how lucky the little bastard is. Ugh! If only I had one ounce of that luck. Whatever--I'm not bitter! ;) His internship is amazing! Not that mine wasn't because it was honestly the best thing I could have ever done in my life! I'm so grateful!

So, as you know he went to St. Louis for the summer to learn how to design baseball gloves. Well given that he got all the brains in the family (thanks mom and dad), his designs are now being prototyped for the 2012 season. Yea. I know. I thought the same thing. How freakin' cool, right?!?!

Wednesday was normal. I don't like how "normal" my days are down here. I'm too antsy for my life to be anything but normal. I just want to shake a personality into people down here! Hehe!

I just can't wait to go home! I need a bit of a break and clear my head! I get to be around people who like to joke around and find sarcasm and wit just as much fun as I do! Iowa, here I come! =)

So, I went out to dinner tonight with some co-workers and on the way home, I don't think I've ever been so scared in my life. Minus the many times I rode in my friend, Courtney's car. As you know, when I get nervous, I don't talk. I didn't talk the whole way home!

I was so scared we were going to crash and die! I'm not even kidding. I kept twirling my hair and necklace to try and distract me from our almost veering off the road 12 times, rear-ending about six different cars, and not understanding how the driver doesn't know how to use the breaks! It was awful! I was literally praying to myself in the passenger seat that I get home safely.

I kept looking over and she looked like she was about ready to fall asleep! I wanted to be like, Earth to you! Are you alive?! I am and would like to keep it that way, if at all possible! Scary.

Okay, so I've officially decided that dating here, at least for me, will never be normal. Why do I always have the luck of finding a man that falls in love after a five-second, "hello." I am not even kidding you. The new boy is one of many things:

Foreign: I think straight off the Russian or Italian boat. I can't decide which one.

Can't speak proper English: I get texts that I don't know what the hell they mean! Adjectives and verbs and nouns are in such a crazy order it's like speaking tongue! "I like talk with you. I call you?" Sir, you can call me when you learn how to speak English.

Random texter: "You no date russian man?" Huh? "You number one associate sales in the whole world." Really? Pretty sure I'm NOT a sales associate, but commendable effort! What is happening here?

From now on, when a guy asks for my number, I'm telling him I'm a lesbian. But my luck, the guy will be into that kind of thing, then I'm screwed. How about...I have a boyfriend. Yea...guys don't care. How about...I don't even know. I need help!

I need to become like Lisa Kudrow in P.S. I Love You. "Are you married? Are you gay? Are you working?" Mine will be, "Do you speak English? Are you married? Are you gay? Are you over 30? Do you stalk women? Are you an exaggerated-text machine? Are you normal?"

If you answer: "No. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Of course!" Don't call me!
If you answer: "Yes. Maybe. Maybe. Yes. Yes. Yes. Depends." Then this is typically who's attracted to me.
If you answer: "Yes. No. No. No. No. Depends. Yes." You can call me.

Note to self: "People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel. No matter where I am or what I am doing...when you come to my mind, it shows on my face."

It's true. I love getting these e-mails! ;)

Day 296

June 24, 2010

Okay, folks. here's the detailed version of the last couple of days.

Tuesday I get my hair cut at the Aveda Institute. I have a really big problem with getting my hair cut by anyone else besides Jan. She's my God when it comes to hair cuts, highlights and waxing. So, I'm skeptical. This is only the SECOND time in, gosh I don't know, 16 years that I've gone elsewhere.

The first time was in Chicago. We got a coupon from our school from a top salon--so I went. It was okay. Now this. Again, okay. But she was a student so I can't be too picky. It took her TWO HOURS to cut my hair! One hour of that was blow drying my hair, which she didn't even complete. I have a ton of hair, so I'm guessing she got bored. I feel ya' sister. My arm gets tired too when I blow dry.

My hair does look nice. I don't want to take credit away from her. But you know when you leave the salon and your head feels like you lost ten pounds? Yeah...I didn't get that feeling. It's okay. At least my ends aren't frazzled beyond recognition! Do you know it had been since Christmas! that I got my haircut! Who am I? I never let that happen! You can only imagine...

Wednesday. Oh Wednesday. Our office took a two and a half hour lunch! Oh yes! It was fantastic! A restaurant we represent is having their grand opening this Saturday, so the beginning of the week was meant for "mock trial" lunches. The food is out of this world! Oh my goodness, it's good!

We ordered six appetizers, each an entree, two glasses of wine each and five desserts! I can't even explain to you! I'll tell you what we ordered:

Appetizers:
Broccoli and cheese pizza: Delectable!
Salmon chips: Chopped salmon on a kettle chip with sauce and capers! Ahhhhh!
Buffalo Calamari: Yes, like the wings! Buffalo sauce over deep-fried calamari! Party in my mouth!
Miso rolls: Grilled fish in a lettuce wrap drizzled with soy/teriyaki sauce. Insane!
Deviled eggs: So good and such a cute idea!
Artichoke: Topped with cheddar and accompanied with sauce. Pretty good!

Entrees:
Lobster club sandwich: That was mine! Words can't even explain! My love for lobster runs deep and I fell in love all over again!
Lobster Cobb Salad: And they chop every little piece of salad goodness for you! Fantastic!
Salmon: So fresh!
Steak: So tender!
Two other salads that I'm not sure what they were, but they looked beautiful!

Desserts: One word. Ahhhhhhhhhleluia!
Key Lime Pie: The BEST key lime pie I've honestly ever tasted!
Peanut butter and jelly donuts: That's right! Peanut butter stuffed donuts with a house-made jam from all the berries! Oh my goodness!
Chocolate Banana Cream Pie: Oreo crust with banana filling yummy! It's absolutely fantastic!
S'Mores Pie: Yea! Served in a mini crock-pot, the warm brownie falls apart in your mouth--which by the way is topped with marshmallows! Ugh! I can't even...
Messy Sundae: The wine glass is dipped in chocolate! Yum-O! Filled with brownie, ice cream and whipped cream. I finished that one for the group! ;) Took one for the team!

So, that was my fantastic afternoon on Wednesday! Jealous? I definitely would be if I was you! I told Roxy that when she gets down here, it's a must-go place!

I worked until about 10:30 last night, then decided to meet someone for a drink. Why not? It's been a long day. We went to the Ale House, which is an awesome place by the way! Like my previous blog states, I just want someone to take me to dinner. Most would find it fantastic that a man wants to take her galavanting across the world. I would love that someday. Not after an hour and a half of casual drinks.

Before asking me to bbq--which by the way, spoke to my heart--I was asked if I had a passport. Of course I do. He tells me he wants to take me to Costa Rica! Do I have "I want to be murdered" written on my forehead? This is a recurring trend with me right now. Is this normal for Florida? God, I hope not!

Then he asks, in a relationship, do I like a man who treats me nice or a man with a lot of money. My thought, Yea, I'm a gold-digger, money-hungry type of gal! Throw in the occasional slap across the face and I think I've got it made. Really? You don't ask someone that.

One good thing: I didn't get offered to meet the parentals, nor did his car break down in the parking lot! So things are looking up! He's a really nice guy, so I'm not going to be too standoff-ish and give it another chance.

All of that food made me so nautious the last couple of days! I think it was too much rich food, ya' know? I had the feeling of a hangover, but obviously wasn't hungover. It was terrible! I still feel yucky, but getting better!

After work, I went to a complimentary pilates class at one of the gyms we represent. I've never taken a pilates class before--it was fun! I want to sign up for a membership and go everyday. And it's a great place to socialize. We had to walk through the basketball and racquetball courts to get to the studio--need I incenuate more? ;) It's funny because my friend gets really nervous around guys and she's the type to trip over herself or run into a piece of string hanging from the ceiling and fall over. She has a boyfriend, but still gets really nervous. It's funny! "Just stare straight ahead," I told her. I did the perusing for both of us.

I finally go to Cannoli Kitchen for dinner! Such a good place! Their pizza selection is out of this world! Have you ever heard of lasagna pizza? Oh yes, they make it! Chicken vodka pizza? I love vodka sauce (no, it's not alcoholic--it's red and white sauce mixed together!) Mmm....I got pasta with a tomato and basil sauce. It was delightful, but really spicy! Cannoli Kitchen is now a go-to place for me!

The Office and 30 Rock was on tonight. So damn funny! 30 Rock makes me miss New York. Everything makes me miss New York! They mentioned "The Spotted Pig" restaurant in the episode tonight. I interviewed to be a hostess there!! But it didn't work out with my hours, so I didn't get the job. It's such a cute place! It's a hole in the wall, the size of my apartment and set on a corner of a cobble-stone street in the West Village. Perfect bbq date night place! Oh man!

So, you know how I can tell who reads my blogs based on city and state? You know how many people from other countries have been reading my blogs lately? I'm talking people from Russia, Italy, Mexico, the U.K., Poland and India...funny huh? I'm international! ;) Just kidding!

I could go on and on today, but this blog is long enough. Have a Happy Friday!

Note to self: I should really probably start thinking about this. I have a lot of little "note to selves" throughout the day, but I always forget them. I suppose the only thing I've got today is this: When trying to impress your attractive neighbor by walking like a hot mama, be careful of stairs. It's never good when you trip going up the stairs as your phone goes smacking into the cement.

P.S. I know how much you love pictures, so I added some from the weekend of the birthday party. Not many, but a few...enjoy! Here!

Day 293

June 21, 2010

So, I had every intention of running once it got dark out tonight. It's too hot to run when the sun is up. Then, the show "Pretty Little Liars" came on and was instantly creepy. Therefore, I got scared and now refuse to go out. I'm staying locked in my apartment. I do have a big intention of waking up early and running at about 6:30 tomorrow morning. We'll see... ;)

Work was good. And it's a very busy and exciting week! Well, that's all I got today.

Note to self: When you're scared of a tiny creak in your apartment, don't watch scary tv shows. Instead, watch "Cake Boss!" It's a magical show of everything sweet and sugary! My favorite thing in the entire world! And he makes the most incredible looking cakes ever!

Day 289

June 17, 2010

What do you think I should do on the 300th day of my blogging? What day is that?
July 27th....hmmmm....Sunday Funday! I'm sure I'll figure it out! On Day 365, I think a trip to Islands of Adventure is necessary. What do you think? Yeah...I thought so too. Now, if you could please call my parents and tell them it's a good idea to buy me a ticket to go, that would be great! And I'm extending an invitation to those who would like to join me! ;)

OR! I just thought of this! By the time I pay for that trip, I could have gone on a weekend cruise to the Bahamas! Oooohhhh....decisions, decisions. If only life was this difficult--to decide where to go on vacation. I'm not going anywhere! Ha! I wish...

I get a text this morning from my friend, Shelby saying she had a dream about my job and gave me some suggestions. She's so sweet! My dream last night was that Kim Kardashian was my personal stylist. Strange.

Did you hear about that police officer punching that 17-year-old in the face? Watch here! Do you think she should have gotten punched in the face? I'm torn. Do I think it's funny? Umm...yup! ;) Do I think it was necessary? Maybe. I don't believe that a man should put his hands on a woman. But at the same time, she was antagonizing him. And calling him the N-word. Can you imagine if he would have said that to her? Good God Almighty, the man would have lost his job, been fined an outrageous amount of money, who the hell knows.

So, it's okay she used this profanity on him? Hell no! I do have to say, I like how people are actually defending the cop. I'm just glad it's not up to me to make the decision, because I have no idea what I would do. My advice: don't push a cop, don't disrespect a cop (although I think cops are people who were bullied in high school and now have huge egos because they can do the bullying now), and don't resist arrest. You're ass is going to jail no matter what. Why fight it? Attention? Please. Get over yourself. I don't have sympathy for obnoxious people.

Moving on...highlight of my day: meeting with our new client, a BBQ restaurant. Are you kidding me?!?! It's like heaven was shining down on me today! And they are authentic BBQ. They drove all the way to Missouri to buy a smoker! And guess what they have? Corn nuggets and BBQ pulled pork! That's all I really need in life. And a Diet Coke. This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship! ;)

Ya' know, I have two really funny stories that happened to me today, but are slightly inappropriate and too much details. And if it weren't for people I don't know reading this blog, I would tell them to you. But not only is my personal humility at stake, my professional one as well. I say that after I just said it was funny that the 17-year old got punched in the face. But whatever.

Anyways, big weekend ahead. Going to sleep.

Note to self: Ever wonder how many days old you are? Worry no more, my friend! Click here and you will find out how many months, days, and weeks old you are. I am 25.6 years old today. Happy 25.6th birthday to me! ;) This calls for a celebration! Calculate it out. Or don't, if you don't want to feel old! ;) Enjoy!

Day 283 - Day 285

June 11 - June 13, 2010

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!!! Today (Sunday) is my dad's 49th birthday! Next year we're going to party it up! It's crazy he's going to be 50, but he's still so young! Wish I could have been there, dad! Love you tons!

I want to talk to you about Friday evening. For some reason, Florida thinks it's okay to have little critters running around your apartment. Yes, I'm talking about those water-bug/cockroach lookin' things. I go upstairs to go to bed and see one of them run into a pile of my clothes! I throw my phone and keys on my bed and run away! Why would I run away? It's not like the thing is going to chase me and kill me. Oh yea, and I may or may not have let out a tiny scream.

So, I call my dad--he doesn't answer. I call my mom--"Ashley, I'm in Iowa...I can't do anything. You're going to have to take care of it."

Ugh! This is ridiculous and highly revolting! This thing, I'm not kidding, was about three inches long! I kept it for proof because I know people are thinking I'm being an overdramatic, drama queen! Don't laugh! This is serious! So, my mom tells me to get spray cleaner of some kind and spray it to death. Ok. So, I get a broom and my lemony-fresh, foam bathroom cleanser.

I run upstairs and literally leap onto my bed! I don't want that thing touching me! So, I'm on my bed with a broom in one hand, spray can in the other, and mom on speakerphone. I take the end of the broom and start to slowly move my clothes, piece-by-piece out of the way. My hands are shaking, my palms are sweating, and my tummy is like a roller coaster ride! I'm so nervous! The LAST piece of clothing is the one the little bastard was under. I lift my Bebe skirt and there it is--antennas wiggling all over the place.

Mom: "Spray it!"
Me: "NO! It's going to ruin my skirt!"
Mom: "Then move the skirt!"
Me: "NO! Because then it's going to run 50 mph and I can't deal with that!"
Mom: "Then I don't know what to tell you, Ashley."
Me: "What if I lightly cover up the bug with my skirt and stomp it to death? Will the skirt clean?"
Mom: "Yes. Just do that."

So, I go get my tennis shoes on to kill this thing. I slowly cover up the bug, plug my ears and start doing the "Lalalalala" noises so I don't hear the crunch of it dying, while I'm stomping my skirt to death! Sad day because it's such a cute skirt! I uncover and the thing is still slightly moving! These things don't die! WTF?! They're like a cat with nine freakin' lives! So, I stomp it again!

Mom: "Now put it in a plastic cup so you can show your office what you're dealing with."
Me: "How am I suppose to get it in there? I'm not getting that close to that thing!"
Mom: "Ashley! Then I don't know what to tell you."

So, okay fine. I put it in one of those plastic, cream cheese containers and close the lid; but then I hear it's feet or something tapping the sides. Uuggghhh! I throw it across the room. I can't even deal with that. No. Not a chance in hell. So, I pick it up with my dust pan and hold it away from my body like it's going to magically open the lid and jump on me. It was a fiasco! Then, I was so wound up and nervous, I didn't fall asleep until about 3:00am!

Saturday was good. I did a little shopping and then got ready to go to West Palm Beach. We had to do some promoting for work, but decided to hang around and check out the nightlife. I just want to say that WPB is nothing what I expected! You hear West Palm Beach and think money, fancy cars, high class people, etc. Nope.

We eat dinner at Forte Wine Bar. So good! Then the bartender makes us the best mojito I've ever had--for free nonetheless! It was made with Acai berry vodka! Incredible! Doesn't it look phenomenal and beachy?

Then we promote the "Hottest Bartender Competition" up and down Clematis, which is apparently the place to go in WPB. Crickets is all we hear! It was dead! Then my friend sees a bar that sells Kava. Kava, you ask? Yea, I didn't know what it was either. This is how it was described to me--marijuana in a glass. Again, what?!?! So, we go in and I ask the owner, so what is this?

Basically, it just has the relaxing effect marijuana has. I don't know. I guess it's really popular, but I've never heard of it. I have to try this and see what it's like. It's completely legal and all-natural. Just like marijuana, I guess--in some parts of the country. Ha! Read the definition here! So, what you do is drink it all at once. They pour a ladle into a little bowl and you just chug it, then eat oranges to get rid of the taste. And the taste.....yuck! So disgusting! But let me tell you. It really did relax me. Crazy!

Then we go to a hookah bar. This place was fun! Minus the lame people, we had a good time! Who goes to a dance club, stands on the dance floor, and doesn't move a muscle? Seriously! That's why they make dive bars! If you're not going to come and dance, or enjoy yourself, go home! Or go somewhere else! This bar was full of the most lame people I've ever seen in my life! They were the types to bump into you and not say excuse me. I'm not okay with these kinds of people. And I don't know who these girls thought they were--they looked like prostitutes.

So, we got some hookah and these two guys came over and asked if they could join us. I knew exactly what they were doing, but they sat down anyway. The kid that sat next to me was so coked out, it wasn't even funny. He just sat there and stared. I'm over people like this, nor do I tolerate it anymore.

Me: "You're a man of few words."
Him: "Yea..."
Me: "Um...do you live around here?" I don't know what to say to those who just stare. Awkward.
Him: "Yea..."
Me: "You're really messed up aren't you?"
Him: "Hahaha, yea..."
Me: "Yea, you're pretty lame."
Him: Not a word...lol!

About two minutes later, his friend says, "Oh umm, we're gonna go and uhh..."
Me: "Just go. Get out of here." As I shoo them away with my hand. Lame men.

Sunday is relaxing! I get some errands done and make some pretty darn good cornbread! Then a day filled with movies (yeah, I know shocking for me!) and then a quick trip to the ocean! It's so beautiful and peaceful...I wish I could shack up and live there! ;)

Note to self: What do you do when you have no idea what to do? I don't know, but I wish I knew. Go to the ocean. That's all I've got. For some reason, it seems to have all of the answers. I know I've said you have to make things happen, but what happens if no matter what you do, things work out? It seems like an ideal situation and I'm more fortunate than I could ever say, so I don't want to sound ungrateful. But what if it's not enough? What if you want more? Do you sit back and let it happen this time, or do you make the effort to go after it? It's playing with destiny and fate, so it gets a bit tricky. So much to do in life and so little time.

P.S. I'm not talking about relationships. ;)

Day 282

June 10, 2010

I thought it was Friday all day today. I wish it was Friday! TGIF tomorrow! I did promotional work today in Delray Beach. It was about 90 degrees and I was out walking for three hours. Ouch, it was hot! I get back to the office and a co-worker says, "Wow Ash, you look really tan." Yeah, I'm in the sun for 30 minutes and I look like an African decedent.  I guess some would consider this gene fortunate. I do!

After work, my friend and I go for Happy Hour and a quick bite. We go to a bar in the Marriott hotel called "Absinthe." Yes, like the alcohol. As we're leaving, my friend asks if they actually sell absinthe. Coincidently, they do. I've never tried it, so what the heck? You always hear things about fairies, dragons, leprechauns, I don't know. So, she gave me a shot of it. Oh man...my tongue instantly went numb! And it wasn't even the purest of absinthe like they sell overseas. But my bro said it was the strongest it could be according to the FDA, or something like that.

It literally made me feel like I had taken 17 pills of Adderall. Not that I know what that feels like, but you know what I mean. No fairies, no dragons or wizards. I'm sure I didn't take enough for this "rumor" to have gone into effect.

My friend said she had the purest form when she went to Europe on a cruise. I told her and the bartender that if I had two or three shots of real absinthe, I would be the one who thought it was a good idea to canon ball off the cruise ship into the ocean.

You realize I've only been in Florida for two and a half months? Doesn't it feel like a decade? Okay, more like six months? Oh my gosh! I just saw a commercial for the coolest water park ever! It's Rapids Water Park in Riviera Beach! Check out their website! Doesn't it look fantastic?!

I think Thursday nights are my new favorite nights of television on NBC!

Day 279

June 7, 2010

You know when you just get back on your feet and life kicks you so hard, you feel like getting jabbed in the gut would be a better option? Today was this day for me. On top of all the stress from work, my car decides she wants to cost me my life savings. Yes, the car that's worth about $2 wants me to spend an outrageous amount of money on it.

I don't want to talk about it, but all I ask is I get one week where life is stress-free and I have NO worries in the world. I really don't know how I'm going to handle kids. But I have somewhat of a solution: A nanny and a psychiatrist! ;) Just kidding!

My day was pretty fun though! Another co-worker and I went to a day party for restaurant business people! We went to this bar in Ft. Lauderdale where they had a pool, a hot tub, free drinks, music, food, dancing, on and on and on...we got a free t-shirt! It was seriously like Spring Break all over again. Only this time, we were sober! ;) Kidding again...

But in all honesty, it was so much fun! Everyone was in swimsuits, they had all kinds of contests, and the weather although scorching topped it all off! I had a blast! One of the funniest moments: A man who could barely speak English and barely stand up came up to me and my co-worker saying, "Hey shladies, what'sh up?"

Me: "Nothing."
Him: "What'sh you guys doin' here." As he almost tips over into the pool.
Me: "Advertising for the hottest bartender competition."
Him: "Hey! I'm a bartender! I'm a bartender! Do you want my number?"
Me: "No, that's okay. You're not really a bartender."
Him: "Come on. Why don't you like me?"
Me: "Because you keep spitting on me!" Hahahahaha! It was really funny! You had to be there!

Then I see him later and he says, "Heeeeyyyyyy I know you. What'sh yur name?"
Me: "Brittany."
Him: "Brittany, yur beautiful."
Me: "Thanks."
Him: "Can I have your number now?"
Me: "No, sorry, but you keep spitting on my arm. I don't think it's going to work out."

Hahaha! As he wipes his mouth and walks away. Classic!

So, I'm told I need to stop working at night when I get home. But my mind wanders just sitting around. This is why I'm terrible at watching movies. Not all the time, but a lot of the times I can't sit still and watch a movie. It would be a challenge for me to get through a whole movie without talking.

I decide to try and do nothing when I get home. Clearly, didn't work. So, I thought to myself...I wonder how many towns in the United States are named Ashley. Don't laugh! It's such a crazy thought, but interesting. Here is some of the stuff I found:

Ashley, Indiana- Check out their website here!

Ashley, North Dakota- Now I have a reason to visit ND! Website here!

Ashley, Illinois- I've actually been there! It's the size of my backyard! And I asked a little girl on her bike how many Ashley's lived in Ashley, IL and she said three! And she was one of them! Ha! Website here!

Ashley Township, Missouri- Website here!

That's enough for now. Do you notice, they're all Midwestern states. I feel like I need to be wearing a prairie skirt or something. It's such an old-fashioned name, but another interesting fact: Since 1980, over 801, 525 girls have been named Ashley! That's the population of San Francisco!

You should really Google your first name and see what towns have your same name!

Well, I've had enough excitement for one day and I'm so mentally tired I could cry. Oh, wait I already did! ;) Okay, goodnight!

Day 272 - Day 274

June 1 - June 3, 2010

June is here! Summer has officially began! At least for me! Problem: this is my first summer where I'm actually a working woman! Not really a problem, but different. Work is going great! Stressful, but good!

And that's about the extent of my updates. That's all I've been doing the last three days--work, work, work! Story of my life! But it's good because I'm learning a lot and very slowly but surely getting better!

Tuesday...what did I do Tuesday? I swear, life needs to slow down for one second! I hate how fast it goes! It's true when they say, that life goes faster the older you get! Remember when you were a kid and Christmas vacation began? Don't you remember it feeling like forever until Christmas Eve came? Did you ever have those cute little countdown calendars? I remember looking at it twenty times a day and thinking, why can't I just move the days quicker? Christmas needs to get here! And then you woke up every 30 minutes to see if Santa came? Then New Year's Eve was light-years away! Now I wish there were 30 hours in a day! Twenty four just isn't enough.

So back to Tuesday. Oh yeah. Bad day. Just a bad bad bad bad day. I went to Checker's after work and gorged my face with a cheeseburger and fries. Yes, I'm the one who promoted Subway and feeling so much better after eating that than 1,600 of fried goodness. But I was the one who went off track. I scarfed those 1,600 calories with no remorse and complete indulgence! It never tasted so good in my life! There's nothing a little (or a lot) of greasy food to fix a stressful day. And after I scarfed down all of the yummy goodness, I wrote the best pitch of my life!

Wednesday. Chow's--women drink for free and again, another stressful day. It's the place to go! Then $5 burger night. Then Dubliner. It was a great Wednesday! I had a lot of fun and got my mind off work for a split second! The Dubliner is an Irish bar in Mizner Park. It's a really chill place that's fun to go and shoot the you-know-what.

Thursday. A better day. Could have been better, but better than Tuesday and Wednesday. Maybe this means my life is taking a turn for the better. Let's all keep our fingers crossed and our faith going strong! ;) I assisted on another television segment. It was fun! I like working with television!

I made some killer guacamole tonight. I've pretty much perfected the art of making perfectly mushed avocados, scallions and lime juice! I have two secrets that I will never tell to making it a success!

Well...back to work! Goodnight!

Note to self: Reach for the stars. When people tell you to maybe scale back and not focus so broad, don't listen to them. Do what you want to do because your persistence and hard work will definitely pay off! Don't lose faith and just keep pushing because those who reach small, catch pebbles. Those who reach for the stars, catch the moon! Don't forget the little guys, but still focus on the big picture! I'm telling you, it will be worth your while! ;)

Day 265

May 25, 2010

You know how you have those days where dates stick out in your mind? I feel like May 25th is an important day for me. Why? I've been asking myself that all day! I swear something happened on this day, but I can't pinpoint what it is!

Anyways, I almost ran over a dog this morning. I chuckle about it now, but it was not funny at 8:30 this morning! The stupid girl walking it didn't even really do anything. The little dog was barking at another across the street. It leaped forward and the girl let the leash slip out of her hands. The little dog goes prancing across the street, in front my car! Stupid people really irritate me! And this girl was beyond! She goes running across the street, with her elbows tucked at her sides, hands flailing all about. I wanted to run her over. She didn't even look to me to apologize.

Work's been kicking my butt. I'm writing my blog early because I have a ton of work to do before tomorrow. I think I have a learning disability...or ADD...I'm not even kidding! I want to get it checked out. It's bad.

Let's see...what else is going on in my life...actually there are some other things taking place, but I don't want to reveal them as of yet! I will eventually...

I hope everyone had a terrific Tuesday! ;) That sounds ridiculous!

Note to self: Eat Subway. Especially their new chicken salad! Mmm....so good! It's so much better for you than a burger and fries. Plus! You don't feel like a lard after scarfing down 1,600 calories in 20 minutes or less. And! When you know you're going to be going on a rather intriguing adventure on Thursday, you don't want those love handles popping over your pants! ;) Not that they do, but you don't want to make room for any excuses! =)

Just think about when you eat healthy. You always feel ten times better! Okay, so the Subway cookies aren't the greatest for you, but sometimes you need a little sugar to get the body moving!

Day 260

May 20, 2010

First off, I would like to say...Dottie, the new look is for you! ;) A little birdie told me you were having a hard time reading it! I hope this helps! I know grandma is looking forward to you coming back to Iowa!

Second, CHECK OUT BRETT'S VACA PICTURES HERE!

Work has been really busy for me, and all I want to do is sleep. I'm working this weekend, so Sunday is my day to be lazy and do nothing! I can not wait!

I didn't really do much today, except work. Got road rage, but that's nothing new for me. People are stupid drivers down here. They're either old and go 15 mph, or they're nuts like me and weave in and around every which way.

Guess what I found today? Another water bug! On another day, I would have freaked out. Today...whatever. It's so nasty, but that's what happens down here. They're dead when I find them, so I know the spray that happens once a month is working. But they're so dang ugly! Thank goodness for my four foot broom to test whether the bug is alive or dead! I was NOT going to have another episode as last time. I'm too tired for that right now. But it didn't happen. Yay!!!

Well, I'm tired and I want to get a good night's rest before my long day tomorrow! Good night!

Note to self: Quote of the day: "A thing worth having is a thing worth cheating for." - W.C. Fields

Damn you, Fields! This is why men cheat, women are hookers, and I'm still single. WTF?! I disagree! What do you think??
