Day 207

March 29, 2010

Today is the start of a new chapter for the rest of my life! Hello, Florida! Welcome home! Do you like my new background? I found it to be very appropriate for my new, permanent location in life! Let's just say today was one of the longest days of my life! But, obviously way worth it!

I wake up at 5:00 a.m. and get on the airport shuttle at 6:15a.m. I get to the JetBlue (the best airline in the world) and the lines are horrendous! But I made it through in plenty of time! I was completely spacey this morning. I thought I would be cost effective and buy a Diet Coke before I left for the airport. Little did I forget that you aren't allowed to take it through security. Needless to say, I got snipped at! You know how friendly airport workers can be! Especially that early in the morning! I think she forgot her coffee! ;)

On the shuttle ride over, the driver was in a bit of a rush. I felt like I was a bobble head, on crack, riding a roller coaster! I was all over the back seat of that van! Then, his seat belt light kept beeping the whole way there. I counted one of the times...70 beeps in a row! Buckle up for safety, sir! The weirdo in the middle seat, sat really close next to a foreign girl, so he could follow the law! I think you should do the same! That much noise, that early, is not okay with me! ;)

My plane is suppose to leave at 9:00 a.m. I see the plane is delayed for 20 minutes, then another 20, then an hour, then 30 more minutes. We leave JFK around 11:45/noon-ish! Crazy! We get to North Carolina, where the plane is suppose to leave at 1:50. They say it's delayed for 30 minutes. Literally, three and a half hours later! We leave! We're suppose to arrive in Ft. Lauderdale at 7:00 p.m., but right when we're getting ready to land, the pilot comes on and says there's something on the runway, so we circle the ocean 50 times, for 30 minutes before landing! Then, we had to wait about 20 minutes for our luggage, I had to take a shuttle to get my car, the GPS didn't work, but I'M HERE! YAY!!!

I know what you're thinking...she had to be flipping out! Surprisingly, I did not say ONE negative thing. I was completely unlike myself today! I don't know what came over me, but I was calm, rational, and completely zen about it all! I loved it! I had no worries in the world! I was just thinking, whatever! I don't care! I'll get there eventually! Okay, who am I? Excuse me...knock, knock! Who's there? I don't know, because it's not Ashley Toncar! ;) I think I'm just so happy and content with the path my life has taken me, that for once in my life, I don't have a reason to be uptight and nervous! It's such a great feeling!

When I was sitting on the plane, I was thinking to myself, I've never felt this way before. EVER! Is this a bad thing that I'm so lax and just 'whatever' about it all? Then, I realized, no! It's a good thing! To just be so comfortable with a situation is fantastic! When I landed, I felt like I do when I get back to Iowa. I feel like I'm at home. It's the weirdest feeling, but I'm in love! Life has just been so good to me, and within all of the craziness and nerve-racking episodes, I'm finally truly happy with everything! I think the fact that I'm so tired has something to do with it too. But it's great!

Tonight is going to be lax because I have an important meeting tomorrow morning! So, I ordered pizza and am just relaxing. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders! It's so fantastic!

Note to self: I've been thinking a lot the last few days about this. Honest to God, without the help of my family, I wouldn't be where I was today. I just want to say, thank you! Family is the most important thing anyone could have, and I have the best family, (in my eyes), anyone could ever ask for! You have been nothing but supportive, open-minded, and helpful in areas where I needed it most. There's a lot of things I could not have done without your help! Everywhere I went, while moving my boxes, people asked what I was going to do with moving. I would say, "Oh my parents are going to drive my stuff to me." One hundred percent, hands down, every single person said, "Those are some parents! You are quite lucky!" You bet they are!

But it's also my grandma, who I call at 4:00 a.m., running down the street, or asking my doorman on a date, or whatever other crazy things I chose to do while coming home from the bars! Most grandmas aren't that cool! ;) And my brother. I can turn to him for anything! He's like a safe. He doesn't repeat anything! And he always knows what to say. A lot of people don't have a close relationship with their siblings. It's important! He's one of my best friends. He's such a great and caring person, and I'm lucky to have such a talented and sweet man, I call my brother.

And my Aunt Tammy. We always have fantastic conversations. Whenever I'm feeling down about certain situations, she's there to pick me up! And what a supporter! We're trying to talk mom and grandma into getting tattoos! It's going to be a family bonding thing. How's it going? We're still working on it! ;) So, if you see my grandma or mother, tell them they should do it! I think grandma should get hers on her booby! Hehe! Hoochie mama! ;) Tammy and I laugh about stuff like this, all the time!

Again, family is the most important element anyone can have in their life. Yes, they get irritating. And yes, you probably snap at them, just as much as I do. But at the end of the day, they're all you've got. So, you better appreciate while you're still lucky enough to have it. I know I don't say it enough, but family...thank you! Thank you! Thank you! From the bottom of my heart. I know I can be difficult, crazy, confusing, exciting, and gutsy. But it's these qualities that are brought out best when I'm around you guys! You keep me positive and in tune with reality. You stick with me when I need you most.

I can't wait for all of you to come and visit me! It's going to be so much fun! Mom, no attached skirts or shorts to your one-piece. Try a nice sarong! Dad and Brett, surf lessons are a must! Tammy, of course you know we're going to the flea market! Grandma, drinks are on me! ;) Tyler, I will NOT be riding a motor scooter with you! I don't care what you say! I'll take pictures as you cruise down the streets of Boca! ;)

Got enough sappy for today?? =) Okay, I'm all done! Have a happy Tuesday! ;) I'm watching CSI: Miami to welcome myself to Florida! Thank God I won't be living there. I'm more scared of Miami than I am New York City! That would have been no good! A blonde girl in the middle of Little Havana? Forget it. I wouldn't last! I barely made it through Harlem! ;) Goodnight!

Day 197 - Day 199

March 19 - March 21, 2010

What can I say about this weekend? Just that it was exciting, fun, dramatic, and interesting all wrapped into one! I tell ya' what! The beautiful weather does things to people! It was so great walking around seeing the tables sitting outside on the patios, people flooding the streets, and chatter and busy, busy, busy everywhere!

Friday: The most interesting day of the weekend! I go to Better Homes and work, then I go to an appointment. Back story: I was talking to a friend of mine from work about moving, life, etc., etc. She was telling she went and saw this guy. He's a psychic and a medium. Now I know what some of you are thinking...this is a joke! No. It wasn't at all! He doesn't advertise. Strictly by word of mouth, so I know he's ligit. And some of the stuff she told me, he told her, was insane! So, I went.

Can I just tell you something? He was amazing! I took notes! You're wondering what he said, right? Here goes!:

I walked in the room and sat down. He sat down and closed his eyes. He slowly looked up and the first thing he said was, "I see two men in your life. You know one of them. He's around 5'11", with dark brown hair and his name starts with a J. He's in banking. Do you know who this is?"
Me: "Yes."
Him: "He thinks about you all the time. He dreams about you quite frequently."
Me: "Hmm...I guess that's why I get a phone call from him once in a blue moon!"
It's my high school sweetheart! He's around that height, with dark hair, his name's Jason, and he's an accountant! Crazy, right?!?

Him: "I see an engagement coming soon with a woman in your family."
Me: "My cousin just got engaged." (I consider my cousin's fiancee family by now)
Him: "Okay, it must be her."
Me: "No, my cousin is a man."
Him: "Oh no! Then it's not him."
Me: "Well, I'm the only other girl in the family on both sides, so you must be talking about me."
Him: "Okay, well I see it coming. You won't be single for long."
Him: "I see Italian. I see Jewish. Someone tall, with dark hair. You don't know him."
Boca Raton's population is 75% Jewish. Sweet.

Him: "I keep seeing healthcare."
Me: "Well, my ex is a doctor."
Him: "Was there another doctor?"
Me: "Yes, the boy I dated after my ex was a doctor."
Him: "There's going to be another one."
No more doctors!!!!! =) Just kidding! He told me this "trend" is going to continue.

Him: "I see you moving to two or three different cities, but settling in one place really soon."
Me: "Well, in the last nine months or so, I've moved to three different places."
Him: "Okay, well, you're going to be settling in one place very soon."
YES!

Him: "I see a baby."
Me: "Uh...mine?!"
Him: "Yes. Not anytime soon. But I keep seeing the number two. I don't know if that means two months or two years. But in the next three to five years, you will be married with a baby."
Me: "Okay."

Him: "I see temporary work."
Me: "I'm in an internship right now."
Him: "Okay. I just want to let you know, you're going to be okay with money."
Him: "Have you ever worked in politics?"
Me: "Yes."
Him: "You're going to get an opportunity to work in politics again."
Him: "Are you a writer?"
Me: "Yes."
Him: "I see you working in the healthcare field, writing for a healthcare company, or pharmaceutical company."
Him: "I'm seeing television cameras. I don't know if you're going to be on tv, or working for tv, but I keep seeing them."
He told me to be open to all industries and he said I have the world in the palm of my hands. It's going to ultimately be up to me on what I do with it! He said, "You're in the driver's seat. You're going to be able to chose what you want to do. Not like most people."

Him: "Are you dating anyone?"
Me: "No one in particular."
Him: "I'm seeing someone 5'10" with longer, dark hair."
Me: "I just met someone like that a day ago."
Him: "Make sure you and him are on the same page."
I have no idea what he meant by this, but I thought it was weird that he knew what he looked like.

Him: "Your mother? She worries about you way too much!" Haha! She totally does!
Him: "You have a brother?"
Me: "Yes."
Him: "I see him wearing a tie. If he's not in college now, he will go and he will do very well. He misses you a ton!" Ahh! Of course he does! ;)
Him: "Does your dad own his own business?"
Me: "No."
Him: "Does he manage?"
Me: "Yes."
Him: "Tell your dad his job is kosher and isn't going anywhere."

He told me about health problems within my family from back in the day, when I wasn't even alive, to health problems now with my uncle!

Him: "I'm getting a sister figure from your mother's side."
Me: "I don't have a sister."
Him: "Did your mom have a miscarriage?"
Me: "No. I have a cousin that passed away when she was younger."
Him: "Were you guys close?"
Me: "Yea."
Him: "She wants me to tell you she just stopped in to say hi. Tell the family she's okay and she sends her love. She keeps telling me about a boat. Did she like the water?"
Me: "Yes."
Him: "Do you know what the boat means?"
Me: "Yea. The last family vacation we went on with her, before she passed, her and my dad rode this boat ride about 15 times in a row! She loved it!"
Him: "She wants me to tell you about the boat, so you know it's her."
Him: "I'm getting a woman on your mother's side and I'm seeing the letter "S." The woman keeps rubbing her chest, like she had heart problems. Do you know who I'm talking about?"
Me: "Yea. It's my great-grandma, Gracie. Her last name is Shephard and she died of a heart attack."
Him: "She wants me to tell you hi and you need to tell the family she sends her love."

Him: "You have two trips coming real soon."
I'm coming back to Iowa twice in April for my best friend's wedding! Crazy!
Him: "Do you want to go to Europe? Or have you been?"
Me: "I've been, but I'd love to go back."
Him: "You're going to go again. I don't know if it's this year, or next, but you're going. And you're going to have the time of your life!"

Him: "You have a lot of good things coming in your life. It's just a matter of time."

How cool is this?!?! I know some of it sounds generic, but he knew too much about my past for me to generalize the statements he said to me! It was pretty cool. Then, when I left, he handed me his card and said, "I want you to call me in a year and tell me where your life is at." He's amazing and so nice!!! If anyone wants his number, he does over the phone! I already have my friend, Dyanna, calling him! ;)

Friday night: Went to a ballet! So amazing! It was a ballet company from Spain and they were debuting for the first time in the United States. My friend's, friend was a soloist. I can't even tell you how amazing this man was!!! Phenomenal! The costumes were beautiful, the dancing was spectacular, and the music was fabulous! Bravo! Bravo! Then it was off for Thai food to Jasmine! I've never had it, but let me tell you! It was great!! I had coconut rice, with chicken, pineapple, and veggies! So good!!! It was "Upper East Side" night for us! I was a little disappointed in the UES. With all of the "glitz and glamour" that go along with it, I wasn't impressed. It looks like my neighborhood, but cost of living is twice the price.

Saturday: I worked. Then we went out for Jen's going away party in Gramercy Park. We went to The Globe. It was really fun! They played excellent music! As you know, Jen is Asian. I'm pretty sure I was the tallest person in the WHOLE entire bar. That even includes white dudes. Okay, there were three other men that were taller than me. One was dancing with himself all night long, one was hott, and the other was not. Guess which one hit on me? The one dancing with himself! Oh yes! One point for Ashley! Way to go, sister! You snag the loser! Go figure! ;) There was a minor incident with boyfriend/girlfriend drama. So, everyone left and went home.

Sunday: Beautiful day outside! I got a lot done with packing! Then I went and got Kara a Crumbs cupcake and took it to work to make her feel better about her boy drama. I got the "Elvis," which is a banana cupcake with vanilla and peanut butter icing. Also, a vanilla cupcake with a buttercream filling, cream cheese frosting, sprinkles, and white chocolate. Needless to say, we both gained about five pounds sharing the cupcakes. The rest of the evening will be dedicated to last minute packing.

Sorry the post is so long, but I had so much fun information to share with you! Hope you had a great weekend!

Note to self: With only one week left before the move, don't think about leaving. Think about spending quality time with the wonderful friends you have made! And there is no sense in crying, because the bestie you made out here is going home to Orlando in April, so you will see her soon!!! Maybe the possibility of crying will be thrown out the window!!! One can only hope!

Day 196

March 18, 2010

Today was gorgeous outside! The weather is getting so beautiful! I love it! I had to be to work at 9 a.m. this morning, so I was a little tired. Work was good! We were really busy, which I always love!

So, lately, I've been getting really sad to leave. I know I've told you this, but I find myself getting teary-eyed thinking about it. Everyone keeps saying to me, "When do you leave?," "When is the last day I'm going to get to see you?," "We're going to really miss you," "Me and (so-and-so) were talking, and we're really going to be sad when you're gone." Ugh! I love it, because everyone I've met here have been so wonderful and have all taught me something unique and different. Things that I will take with me the rest of my life. But it's also really sad because I know I'll never see most of these people ever again.

I don't care what anyone says about New Yorkers. Yes, they are selfish and self-indulgent. But the New Yorkers I've met and grown to love, have been nothing but supportive, caring, and generous. I have made friends that I will have forever and we have created memories that I will never forget!

I'm terrible with good-byes, which again, I have told you this. I'm going to try my hardest to try not and cry, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to matter. It's going to happen. I think a lot of it too, has to do with the fact that I'm really nervous about going to Florida. Why you ask? I've always wanted to live in Florida! I've always wanted to end up there with my career, a family, my family, etc. I also really wanted to live in New York for a while. I didn't love New York like I thought I would. And like I hoped I would. I just don't want the same thing to happen to me in Florida.

The opportunity I took is amazing and I know I'm going to meet amazing people and have endless opportunities! I already have met some great people when I went to their event. So, I know it's a great move. But I really, just really want to fall in love with it! Just like every time I visit. I've never had such a good feeling about anything in my life, so I'm positive my love for the sunshine state is only going to get stronger! It's funny because whenever I tell a new person I'm moving, this is the response I get, "I can totally see you living in Florida!" Totally right!

I took it easy tonight. My weekend is jam-packed with things going on! I've been seeing on Facebook, people talking about March Madness. Hmm...not really my thing. I love going to basketball games in person, but to watch it on tv, no. I find it extremely boring! Even though I used to be a basketball star in middle school, I never grew up around people who liked watching it. I'm more of an "in your face" kind of sports girl! Put me in the action and I'm all about it!

I'm seriously thinking about trying out for the Miami Dolphins Cheerleading Squad! What do you think?! Way fun, huh?! I don't know when tryouts are and I'm trying to find out, but how much fun would that be?!?! I'm still debating! I probably will, if they haven't held tryouts already. I have lots of guts when it comes to things like this. So, they say no? Okay. You know how many times I've heard no in the last six months? Too many to count! It's like second nature to me now! ;) "No" is in the top five words of my vocabulary.

I was talking to my mom today and she was telling about the next "Apprentice" season. It's about college kids who can't find jobs! My mom thinks I should try out for it! Hahahaha! That would be awesome! I'm pretty sure I could bring some spice to the show! You know what I told her? I don't have the cut throat, don't-give-a-shit-about-anybody attitude to make it.

I've been around and seen people like this and it's not for me. Yeah, these people will make more money than me, but I'm going to be the happier one! And that's all that matters to me! I can't be ruthless to the point where I stab someone else in the back. To me, if you have to do that, then you're not qualified enough anyway. It's just an insecurity. I've always gotten things in life by just being me. That's the best anyone can ask for. If they don't like me, okay. See ya' later! Maybe it's the wrong attitude to have, but thus far in my life, it's worked out pretty damn well!

I hope you enjoyed my St. Patty's Day pictures and blog!

Note to self: No matter how many times you fail in your life, just remember, there are people out there failing a lot harder than you are! Enjoy the pictures below of those who have failed! ;)

Day 194

March 16, 2010

You know when you're packing and you think you've finally finished, you find more crap stored in a secret hiding place? I'm telling you what. I cannot wait! to get to Florida in two weeks! I'm ready for all of these boxes to be packed and shipped home and my booty on the plane to Boca!

So, I'm in the elevator, on the way home, and I'm carrying a rather large box. An older gentlemen in the elevator keeps making comments to me about it. Sir, it's a box. He says, "Well, maybe you should break it down." Maybe I should. But then that means more work for me when I get home. Plus more packing tape. Do you know how much packing tape costs out here? It's $7.50 for ONE roll! One roll! I'm not going to break down a box and have to waste tape at this price! Are you kidding me?!

Then he proceeds to tell me that instead of the clear packing tape, I should use Scotch tape. Because clearly that's going to hold the boxes sturdy, full of my breakable things. What?! Sir, Scotch tape can barely hold two pieces of paper together! I think it's about time the advice giving stops. I'll consider it, but I'm skeptical!

Well, that's the extent of my exciting evening. I have a big week and a half ahead of me, full of hanging out with my friends before I leave. (Tear.) So, it's a quiet night in the apartment.

Note to self: "The real person you are is revealed when you are certain no other person is watching. When no one is watching, you are driven by what you expect of yourself. Think about what it is you expect from yourself and live it. No excuses, no exceptions!"
Do you ever notice when other people aren't around, you're more confident in yourself and your decision making? I feel like this a lot at work! You have to be strong and confident all of the time! Because with confidence, comes trust from others. When you are confident and trust in yourself, others will follow. It's like follow the leader! Confidence creates positive energy, which creates positive results! Go for it and aim high!

Day 193

March 15, 2010

Two weeks from today, I will be residing in the sunshine state! Oh yea! I cannot wait! But I have to tell ya'...I'm getting really sad to leave. As you know, I'll cry. I always do! Even when I'm not sad to leave places, I cry. I think my body automatically reacts to the situation. But I will  truly be sad to leave New York City.

My editor's took me out to lunch today. It was great! We went to a restaurant called "Rare." Sounds cool, huh? We had an appetizer of "Sampler Fries!" Holy cow, it was tasty! We had parmesan truffle fries, sweet potato fries, and cottage fries. Mmmm....! I, of course, had the BBQ Brisket sandwich with cole slaw. I'm telling you, I was made to live in the south! I'm going to be so sad to leave BHG. Everyone is so great to work for and I really learned so much from the two wonderful ladies, I had the pleasure of calling my editor's for the last six months! They are both magnificent, talented, and strong women--women who I aspire to be someday!

I start shipping my boxes home. Thank goodness for my dad being employed for FedEx! It's costing me practically nothing to ship everything home! Plus, my brother and his friends are going to drive it down to me, so they're not complaining about having an excuse to come to Florida! Or my grandma is going to drive it down with a friend of hers. Again, just another excuse to see the sand and the ocean! =)

Okay! Now to the story of the evening! I get a call from my best friend, Abby, in Illinois. The back story: Abby dated a guy named, Brian, for about three to four years. Off and on. She hasn't heard from him in a while, then he calls her last night. They're just small talking and he says, "Are you sitting down?" She says, yes. He tells her he is engaged! Why on earth would you call your ex-girlfriend, who was head over heels in love with you, and tell her this?! Idiot.

THEN! He says, "I want you to meet her and approve!" WHAT?!? No way! Are you kidding me?! Hahahaha! My response, "Abby, hell no! You are not going to meet her!" Her response, "Hell no, I'm not going to meet her!" Clue #1: He's an idiot + an ass hole!

His excuse for calling Abby and telling her is because he didn't know who to talk to and he wanted to talk to her. He says, "I let you go and I didn't want to do that to anyone else." Clue #2: You're not over Abby! Why would you even think about calling her? Dummy.

THEN! Abby asks about the ring...obviously! ;) He says he paid $8,000 for a 3-to 4-karat ring. No way! Not possible! When Abby told him this, his response was, "It is in the hood!" WHAT?!?! The girl is wearing ghetto bling on her finger!

THEN! He tells Abby his mom hasn't even met her  and they're "going to see how things go this semester." What do you have to see? You're planning on getting married in JULY! You may want to open your eyes so you can see things clearer and a little quicker, honey! How long have you known him? Six months? Please. If you knew this man, you would know she's making a huge mistake!

THEN! He says to Abby, "Did I make a mistake?" WTF?! Are you serious right now? You didn't make the mistake, Brian. You ARE the mistake! The girl made the mistake by saying yes! Thank God Abby got out of there! We came to the conclusion that hopefully the girl is smarter than Abby is and gets out sooner! Abby and I are not really the brightest when it comes to decision making about men! It just takes us a while longer than most people to figure things out! ;)

THEN! She gets a text message from him after their conversation saying, "I will always love you. No one will ever make me feel the way you did." Or something along those lines. Excuse me? Does your FIANCEE know you're saying this? Probably not. This seems to be a recurring theme with Abby and I.

THEN! I find out, him and his fiancee are going to be my neighbors! They're planning on moving to Miami! Haha! I wonder if he'll look me up! I wouldn't, if I was him!

I find this absolutely hilarious! What would you do if your ex called and told you this?? After the shock of knowing he had the audacity to call me, I'd probably have a smirk on my face. Why get mad? You won! It means that while you're happy with your life, he's going to wish he was happy with you! And be thankful you got out while you did! Because what he did with you and the girl before you, and the girl before you, he is going to do to someone else. You can't teach an old dog, new tricks! Thank God you got out before it was too late! ;) Love you, girl!

Note to self: Get some rest because tomorrow starts your early morning workouts! Eek! This is going to suck, but it will be good for you! Knowing you have to have a rockin' beach body in two weeks, puts a bit of pressure on a woman! I've made a new album on Picassa, on my Google Profile page! Check it out! They're pictures from my trip to Boca in September! You can get a sneak peak as to where I'll be living! What's so funny, is on my Facebook page, under one of the pictures, I wrote, "In Boca Raton. My future residence someday!" Who knew?? I did! When I want something, I make sure to make it happen!

Day 190 - Day 192

March 12 - March 14, 2010

This weekend was all about fun, friends, and packing. Yes. Packing. Whan. Whan. I am actually sick of looking at my things! Who knew?! Friday was going to be dedicated all day to packing and getting everything ready and shipped off. Didn't happen. I got called into work. Damn. While at work, I picked up a gossip magazine. The very last page was dedicated to the nation's best cupcakes! Oh yes! Problem: I've tried every. single. one of them. Haha! Crumbs, Magnolia, Baked by Melissa, and Sprinkles! Eek! That's bad.

Work was terribly slow. I mean, terribly slow. On the way home, I decided to go to The Bread Factory and get some sweet treats. Ya' know, the sweets are not as good as when I first moved here. I thought this was the best place ever when I first arrived. Now, after being around, I realize it's pretty bad. I was a little disappointed.

This weekend was also filled with rain, rain, and way more rain! On Saturday, as of two o'clock in the afternoon, the weather station said that if the rain was snow, we would have three feet! Are you kidding me?! That's just an idea of how bad it rained. And the wind? Good Lord! I was not about ready to walk in this crap, are you nuts?? So, I hail a cab to work and walk it home. The walk home was bad. I was talking on the phone and my dad could even hear the rain beating against my umbrella! Crazy!

Guess what Saturday was? Dance party! Whew hew! But this time, it was 80s themed! Packing and dancing! What a way to spend a Saturday. Thank goodness I had company! Here is a list of my favorite 80s song! Start your Monday right with a little Madonna, Bon Jovi, and Journey! Just to name a few!

My all-time favorite 80s song! MONY MONY!
Come on Eileen
Dancin' with Myself
Love Shack (Brings back a ton of good memories!)
Jessie's Girl
Jack and Diane
We're Not Gonna Take It
Shook Me All Night Long
Livin' on a Prayer (He's from Boca and my second all-time favorite 80s song!)

She's Like the Wind (Great remix!)

Sunday, the rain continued. So, I got some more packing done! I'm getting there! My grandma has been sending me an e-card everyday, counting down until I leave. Yikes! They're so fun, but it scares me because of everything I still have left to do! I got a text from my bro this morning telling me how he was watching dolphins swim and play in the ocean, outside his hotel room! So jealous! So, we came to the conclusion, when he comes this summer to visit, we're going to go swimming with them! Speaking of Spring Break, this weekend, we reminisced about our SB experiences. I've had a few!

When I think of Spring Break, one year comes to mind: 2004. Oh man! Did we have fun! I met so many people that week! Only if Facebook was invented then! So, the first day we were there, I met this boy. I'm pretty sure he is the most gorgeous man I've ever met in my life! And he's from Florida! His friends and my friends hung out all week! So much fun! He was my Spring Break boyfriend, if you will! =) We even kept in touch a little after SB, but sadly enough, it didn't work out. Long distance rarely does. But I should have kept his number!

Anyways! His friends and Tyler (is his name), had boats. Fabulous! So, one day, they tied them all together out in the ocean and a ton of people hopped on and had fun. Okay.
Spring Break Rule #1: Don't drink Jungle Juice in the sun, on a boat.
Spring Break Rule #2: Don't try and hop from boat to boat after a couple of glasses of this juice. This = you falling in between the boats, and into the ocean!
I know what you're saying. No you didn't? Yes, I did.

Oh, how I miss that boy! I wish I could show you a picture. Those were the days of disposable cameras, so I would have to have my mom send it to me, I'd have to scan it, blah blah. Just trust me. He's beautiful! How weird would that be if we ran into each other? Like I said, if opportunity knocks... =)

We also met some great people from Boston! One kid, who wore a Burberry button down, glasses, and boat shoes, rapped to us like he was Ludacris! One of the funniest moments in my life! It would be like Bill Gates acting like Jay-Z! Hysterical! And the next day, on the beach, he was wearing floaties! Ahahaha!

So, I decided to catch up my laundry tonight. As I step into the elevator, there is a rather attractive gentlemen. All I kept thinking was, I hope my underwear isn't showing through my mesh laundry bag! It probably was because that's my luck!

Note to self: "Our lives are not determined by what happens to us, but by how we react to what happens. Not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst; a spark that creates extraordinary results!"

"Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes. Not one of us is perfect and we are all allowed to slip once in a while. It's how you learn from those slips that matters."

A great quote from Desperate Housewives! "People only hide the true nature of their selves. We only find out this true meaning, after it's too late."

Happy Monday! I hope this starts your week off well! ;)

Day 187

March 9, 2010

I officially hate packing! I literally just stood in my apartment today for about ten minutes, eating candy, just staring at everything. In the past year, I've moved three times. Yes. Three times! And big moves, too! You should see my place. I have stuff everywhere! So, I do what I typically do. I procrastinate. I get on the phone and call some people, then some people call me. No good.

I Googled the best of the best places of my future residence. Well, at least my favorite things in life: ice cream, seafood, and martinis! Below are places I will be visiting immediately upon my arrival. Well...at least spread out over the first few weeks!

Jaxon's Ice Cream
Legal Sea Foods
Reef Road and Rum Bar
Old Dixie Seafood
Cugini Grille
Blue Martini Lounge
Igot's Martiki Bar

And we can't forget about what's important to all women: Pedicures!
Boca Raton Day Spa

My friend, Greg told me today, he considers me a "mover and a shaker." This is true. I obviously like to move, and we all know I love to shake my booty! ;) Then, I got to thinking about a really funny quote I have posted on my Facebook page. It's from Sex & the City! It reads, "Maybe some women aren't meant to be tamed. Maybe they are supposed to run wild, until they find someone just as wild to run with." Those girls know it all! ;) Because someone as wild as me, (which in all reality, isn't that wild), will be my perfect match! Great times ahead! ;)

He also proceeded to tell me about how Boca loves to "party." And by party, Greg likes to say, "Ash, they like to do the "sexy" drugs." Awesome. Well, I suppose, as long as they're the sexy ones. As opposed to non-sexy ones? I don't even know the slang terms coming out of his mouth! His advice, "Just make sure your hand is always over your drink." Good call, my friend!

So, I discovered something today! When you look at my Google profile, it gives you a very brief overview of myself, a link to my blog, my email, etc. Well, there is also a link where I can post pictures! Who knew?! Now, instead of posting pictures to my blog, I'm going to link you to my Picasa Web Albums, via my Google page. Click here! This will take you to the sample album I created today. It's some pictures from my friend, Renee's wedding this summer! It was so much fun!

I want to say a special, "I'm sorry," to our family friend, Linda. She had to put her dog to sleep today. His name was Bacardi and he was such a sweet dog! May he rest in peace! Now, Sassy has someone to play with! ;)

Note to self:  Maybe learning Spanish is a good idea. Then, when people are talking to each other, you can understand what they're saying! And most people will have no idea you know what they're saying! It could be a ton of fun! And probably, quite educational! It's something to consider, although you said you would never do it! Especially, in southern Florida. It's something to take into consideration.

Words I know:

Hola
Seniorita
Senor
Como Estas

That's it! I have a lot of work to do! ;)

Day 186

March 8, 2010

Exactly three weeks from today, I will be moving! I was talking to my friend tonight and she said, "Ashley, it seems like when something happens in your life, it happens so fast." She makes a good point. I used to be one of those people who over-analyzed everything. Sometimes, I still do. But over the last year or so, I've learned that, by over-analyzing, you can talk yourself out of things. So...I decided...I'm not going to do that anymore. And I haven't. I have literally jumped in with both feet first at everything I've done since about last July. It's been great! Probably not smart, but life has been way more exciting! ;)

And this is completely unlike me. However, in all of this craziness and randomness, I'm still insanely organized! How do I do it? I have no idea! Organization is probably my best quality! Ask anyone...they'll tell you! So, I guess it works.

You know how you have that feeling that you can not wait to jump into your soft and fluffy bed, while your head hits the pillow? Today is this day for me! I tell ya' what...a mattress pad is a must for your bed! I bought one before I moved here and it makes my bed feel like I'm sleeping on air! I recommend you buy one!

So, lately, I've been looking at places to live in Boca. I'm going to do an extended stay hotel for about a month or so, so I can have time to look around and find a place I really love! Can I just tell you that it makes me sick to my stomach to know how much more I can get down there for about half the price of what I'm paying here?? I can't even tell you! I'm leaning towards either a townhouse or an actual house! You should see the deals! It's fantastic! But again, with me...who the hell knows! I'll probably end up pitching a tent on the ocean for a few months in the summer. ;)

The next three weeks are going to be nuts! I have birthday parties, going away parties, friends coming in town, etc., etc., etc.! When am I going to pack? I'm sitting, looking at my closets and all of my things thinking...I don't want to pack. At all! I hate moving! I hate it as much as I love it! So, I'm pretty sure once I get to Florida...I'm parkin' it! ;)

We have a problem. Remember how my heat is building controlled? Well, folks. It's happening again. They turned off our heat because it's now in the 50s. I am FREEZING! Here I go again, having to dress like I'm in Alaska to go to sleep. I need to write a letter telling them this is not okay. Maybe some people's bodies are naturally chilled, 24/7. Hint, hint...me. Let's be considerate here, people!

Note to self: Take notes when watching Good Eats on how to make doughnuts! Doughnuts are so good! And think about it! Once you have the base recipe, you can make all different kinds! Blueberry, raspberry, peanut butter, chocolate chip. Holy cow, I really need to start making these things! I'm tellin' ya' what! I will be the Semi-Homemade Sandra Lee mom and wife! As long as I have a hip and trendy apron, I'll be set! ;) Check these out!

Day 182

March 4, 2010

My day: Medicine. Sleep. Medicine. Sleep. Some TV. Check my email. Medicine. Sleep.

And everyone thinks my life is so exciting! Haha! Not today. =)

I heard Iowa's weather is getting better! Yay! Iowans need winter to go away! You have been brutalized enough this winter!

Note to self: Considering I did nothing today...I wasn't really confronted with anything; therefore, I have nothing to say. Sometimes thinking about nothing is great! When you think about nothing, there is no cause for stress, worry, or useless emotions. Try and think about positive upcomings. Moving to Florida...hello! But with that, comes stress about moving, costs, blah, blah, blah. Sometimes it's nice to let the mind relax. Try it! It's actually quite nice!

Have a great day!

Day 181

March 3, 2010

Still sick. I'm getting worse, which is not good news! I took some cold medicine last night and was out by 9:30! It was great! I have a busy weekend/three weeks ahead of me. I can't afford to be sick for one more day!

So, I left work early yesterday for an appointment I had. That was about the extent to my day. Exciting, huh?! ;) I did have to walk to the bank to deposit some cash into my checking account. Okay, so I get there and tell the lady I need to deposit some cash. It was quite a bit of cash, and it was all ones! So, I'm classy and pull it out of a plastic baggy and hand her this huge wad! Then, I realize I forgot to take off my blue, glitter nail polish. My thought: She thinks I'm a stripper. Great. Plastic bag full of money? She probably thinks it's from my pimp. I've never felt like a hooker before. I wanted to die! I was pretty embarrassed, but slightly amused! Hehe!

I realized that I only have three and a half weeks until I move! I have so much to do before then! So, I started my planning by Googling the "Best of Boca Raton" and "Boca Raton Summer Festivals." Come to find out, I'm missing the Wine Festival by two weeks! Bummer! Oh well! There's always next year! Then, my friend, Shelby called me tonight. She lives up in Minnesota and works for a public relations company up there! She got to go to the set of a movie and watch them film a few scenes! How cool is that?? I'm way jealous! She's already looked up how much it's going to cost for her to come and visit! Haha! We've already planned that we are going to live at the beach and eat LOTS of seafood on outside patios! Fabulous!

Boca is really close to a lot of great places, too! Twenty minutes to Ft. Lauderdale; 30 to Miami; 4-1/2 hours to Key West; 3 hours to Orlando! And I'm only ten minutes away from the Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals training camps! Oh boy! Baseball boys are my all-time favorite! Nuts! I don't know what I'm going to do with myself! But I can't wait to find out!

Note to self: Don't wash this! It's not a bath towel! ;) I kind of want one of these! I don't know what it's called, but I would call him Winston. Yes...as in...Harry Winston! ;)
