Day 156

February 6, 2010

I am the biggest procrastinator today! I don't have to be to work until five, so I just kind of loaf around this morning. The wind is howling outside my glass sliding door, making it seem like it's traitorous outside! I wait until the very last minute to leave because I hate the thought of walking in such cold weather! When I get to work, the heat isn't really working. My nose is frozen, I can't feel my fingers, and the hair on my arm is standing straight up! So, me and the other hostess take turns going back into the kitchen to warm up!

Work definitely proves to be interesting. I tell ya' what. Nothing exciting happens in your life, until you least expect it! I expected tonight to be boring, for fear I wouldn't have anything to write about. But oh no! You can thank "The Desperate Housewives of New Jersey" wannabe's for this! A group of 17 comes in for a gentlemen's 45th birthday. Let's just say, they were having a really good time, before they came in! The women walk in, where the only real thing on them, may have been their Tiffany's.

(P.S. This is the engagement ring I like. Of course girls look at this stuff! It's fun! Check it out! Don't freak out over the price! In my opinion, this is a gift that lasts forever! It's a great investment! Because with me, honey, it is forever! You're stuck with me! ;) I would be okay with it not being from Tiffany's. I actually prefer it to NOT be from there. Too cliche! If I pop open a Harry Winston box, forget about it! I'm ALL yours! ;) )

Anyways...

Our manager tells them we cannot serve them any alcohol. The reataurant is liable for them when they leave. Smart move on her part. They get mad! Oh man, do they get mad! I stand up front, so I have no idea what's going on. The birthday boy starts walking out and I say, "Hey, are you coming back?" I'm completely kidding with him because I really thought he was going outside to smoke or something! He mumbles something and walks out.  His wife follows a bit later, crying! I figured they got in a fight.

Then, the other people slowly start floating up front. I get really nervous because they are complaining something fierce. I don't want them to say anything to me! What am I going to say? So, I just stand there, staring at the computer, hoping they will hurry and go away!

Okay, I'm sorry, but when you show up, three sheets to the wind, do you really expect us to serve you more alcohol? Not only are you literally yelling in our dining room, but you are being rude to everyone.

So, there is one lady left. Ms. Cheetah print, fur coat says to me in her cocky attitude, "Can you explain to me what just happened?"
Me: "Well,  I don't know."
Cheetah: "Well, your witch of a hostess just kicked us out. She said she couldn't serve us because we're drunk. We're not drunk. And I'm a big wig at New York Magazine."
Me: "Well, ma'am, I do know that one guest couldn't even walk by himself when he came into the restaurant. He had to be held up by two of his friends."
Cheetah: "What if he has an illness? She just discriminated against him."
Me: "Does he have an illness?"
Cheetah: "Yea"
Me: "Really? Because when he left, he was walking just fine by himself. He didn't need the help of his buddies, so I don't think that's the issue." You're really going to pull the discrimination card? Please.

On the upside, the Super Bowl is tomorrow! I was stumped on what to bring to the pot luck, so I asked the chef! He puts together a bunch of herbs and spices for me and tells me to just add sour cream! He's so sweet! It's going to be so good! Who are you rooting for? I'm going for the Saints, all the way! I'm actually more excited for the commercials. Bud and Bud Light always have the best commercials! Hopefully they hold up to their reputation this year! Three million for an advertisement--you'd hope they would!

Note to self: Randomly read your horoscope. Even though, most people think they're more of a coincidental type of thing, it's still fun! My grandma reads mine to me today because it's all too perfect!
"Some people have a hard time letting the wind carry them where it will. That's not your challenge. It's way harder for you to stay in one place for any duration. You're in luck. You'll be asked (and maybe paid) to wander."

Crazy! All I can think of is...drum roll, please...Florida!?!?!?! Maybe? Is a job offer coming my way? Ooohhh...I don't know, but hopefully this is true because I can't wait to find out!!! ;)

Also, go to a psychic once in your life! It's so much fun! I've been to two! It's so funny how you take what they say and twist it into your own reality! I do believe some things they say are true. Both said I will be wealthy someday. Gotta love that! One said I'm going to write a book! Awesome! Both said I'll only be married once, with two children--one boy and one girl! Perfect! Just what I want! They both said other things, but it's weird how both psychics told me things most wouldn't assume about me.

Psychic one told me I need to drink green tea because it will help me with a health issue I have. Weird! Who knows about that?? This is the same psychic who told my friend that she is a twin and that someday, she'll have twins! Crazy!

Psychic two told me and I quote, "You cry too much over..." She's talking about a certain situation. No way do you know this! No one would EVER guess that! It's nuts! She also said other things that ended up being true. She is one insightful lady!!! I want to go back and talk to her now!!! ;)

I was looking online for things to do for my friend's bachelorette party and apparently, there is a lady in NYC that's a psychic, who does readings for bachelorette parties! Why on earth would you want to go to one of these ladies pre-wedding? No way! I would be petrified she would tell me something awful--like my fiance likes men, or my bridesmaid is going to run away with him, or something crazy like this! ;) I don't recommend it.

Have fun with your Super Bowl festivities! Whatever they may be! GO SAINTS!!! ;)

Day 102

December 16, 2009

Day 101! I should write a book. "101 Firsts of New York City," or something chotchy like that! Hehe! Like I said yesterday, I have loved every minute of it! As much as I hate somedays, love somedays, and am indifferent on others...I still love it all! What a better way to celebrate my first few hundred days than a visit from a great friend from back home! Caitlin is coming to visit and we are going to have a blast! Food, sightseeing, dancing--you name it, we have it covered!

So, back to today. It's a pretty low key day, which is perfectly fine with me! After my internship, I have a lot to do! Christmas shopping, writing cards, cleaning, etc. Guess what? I didn't really get a lot of it done, either! I'm so tired and burnt out! I can not even tell you how excited I am to come home! I need a break from this place, bad! I actually miss quite a lot about the Midwest. The smells, the grass, Target, my car (esp. now that it's getting cold!), and Midwestern hospitality. I'm about ready to burst. I need to see my family and my friends!

You know what else I miss? I was talking to my friend, Dyanna about this...Midwestern boys. I don't care what people say--men are men, this is true. But there is a difference! Trust me! My friend Greg and I were talking about this last night. He even says girls are different on the West coast (he lives in Utah). Sure, the opposite sexes are obviously very similar, but overall values, morals, and outlooks on life...so different! What are men's morals and values out here, you ask? They don't have any! Their outlook on life? Which life are you talking about? Their married life? Or their single life? They do like to live more than one at the same time out here! I think I have yet to experience a man like this, in NYC anyway, but my boss at the restaurant explains it to me like this...there are four types of men in this city:

1. Have a girlfriend
2. Are married
3. Divorced
4. Just got out of a relationship

What do all of these men have in common? They just want to have a good time. My boss tells me, "If you came out here looking for the love of your life, you can forget about it." Yikes! I've learned this is true. Good thing that isn't my intention and reason for moving out here! ;)

You know what I want? I'm pretty sure I already wrote about this in a blog from when I first moved here. A man who can dance! They seriously mesmerize me! I can't explain it how it affects me. I just fall in love at the first turn or hip swing! Whewey! I'm watching the So You Think You Can Dance finals. One of my managers at work's, step daughter, is Eleanor. She was in the top four! Cool, huh? She's amazing!!!!

Who likes J. Lo's new song? A song about Christian Louboutin shoes. Yes, they are my favorite shoe brand as well, but a song about them? Really? I'm not a big fan, but I guarantee you it will probably be a big hit at the dance clubs! Now, I just need to fork over about $700 for a pair and I'll be set! ;) Yeah, okay...maybe when I'm 60 and my student loans are paid off! ;)

The holidays totally make me all mushy and give me all sorts of warm fuzzies inside. I'm writing Christmas cards and I have small tears coming down my face. Maybe because it's been a rough week or so and I miss home and am ready for Christmas to see everyone. Pandora sappy Christmas music doesn't help either. But it's so good, I don't want to turn it off! ;)

Note to self: When you truly realize how massive of a control freak you are, maybe you should step back and calm yourself. It's not a good thing to want to be in such control that you take on more than your own problems, concerns, and destinies. It may or may not be a problem. A friend sent a text a while back that states, "Love yourself enough to stop trying to control other people. Focus on YOUR happiness and let them figure out theirs." I need to read this everyday. Probably seven times a day. You know you can't control your life, so why are you trying? Stop it! Enjoy the day has been given to you. You might not get the chance tomorrow.

I really need to listen to my own advice, even though when typing this, I'm talking to myself. It's so much easier said than done! I need to practice what I preach!
