Day 59

November 4, 2009

GO Yankees!! Yay for World Series Champs!!!! It's crazy here and I absolutely love it! I can't wait to see what they do to celebrate! Parade? That would be cool!! I wish I could have been there!

It has been one great day! The Yanks, my first day at my internship, and I made some pretty nice tips at the restaurant. Yes, Better Homes & Garden Magazine is a complete blast to work for! It's only day one and I walk out with nearly three pounds of free beauty products! I can definitely get used to this! How amazing?! Bags and bags full of products that companies send the editors. Whatever they don't want, I can have! What girl could have it better? I can do my Christmas and Birthday shopping for family and friends in the comfort of my work! ;) It's a beautiful thing!

Not to mention the work I get to do. It's a mixture of administrative tasks, assisting with photo shoots, editing, etc. I get to dip my hands into all aspects of the department. I am so fortunate to have been given this opportunity and you bet I am going to make the most out of it, and work my booty off to make a good impression! Meredith Corporation is such a great company to be a part of, and I am so thankful for the great recommendations coming from within the company! My editors are absolutely amazing! They are awesome women and they are a ton of fun!!!

Work is fun, as usual. My co-workers are so much fun and I really enjoy myself there! Checking coats is a great way to make some extra money in tips! I didn't even realize! However, when they tell you to buy slip-resistant shoes, don't wear your super-cute flat boots, no matter how much they make your outfit look good. When you continue to slip, you are eventually going to face plant it. And that will be nothing short of humiliating. So, I will no longer be wearing these boots that I adore. It's back to the old woman, black flats that will keep me from a broken leg!

Note to self: Even though it looks sunny out, the buildings create quite the shadows. So, don't wear your sunglasses. People aren't looking at you because they find you attractive. No. They are probably looking at you, thinking, Who is divalicious here, wearing her sunglasses when the sun is not shining. Also, wearing leggings with a sweater dress is cute, but not when you keep pulling at it to make sure your booty doesn't play peek-a-boo with innocent by-standers. Don't tug at yourself. And stop walking like your thighs are glued together. That's why people are staring. They're trying to figure what the hell you're doing and what on earth is wrong with you! They're sympathy/concerned/confused glances. That's it.

Day 57

November 2, 2009

Can you believe it's already November? I can't! It only means one thing...I will soon be 25. Ugh! Horrid, I know! If I can stay 25 forever, I would be okay with that. I do not want to get older!

Besides this fact, today is a great day! I start my new job at The Capital Grille today. It is such a great place to work! The people are amazing--the managers don't talk to you like you're nothing. Unlike my previous job. I already have benefits, we get a free dinner everyday, and the best part...drum roll please...they are closed on Thanksgiving! Whew hew! The one thing I have been worrying about since I started applying for jobs! It's amazing! I can now enjoyably go to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with my brother and not have to worry about work! ;)

You should really check out their menu. Their food looks amazing, the atmosphere is a professional, yet elegant take on Old Hollywood Glamour, and the friendly staff, I know I will come to grow and love! Who doesn't love free coffee all day? I'm raising my hand, because I know I do! Let's not forget the rather attractive, business men that come strolling through our doors. That's just a bonus! And I've only been there a day! I may need to cool myself off a bit!

I come home, tired from the long day. After talking to my friend, Dyanna, on the phone, I turn to none other than "New Moon." I'm already 3/4 the way done! I can't even believe it. I now want to take up the hobby of reading. It's so different than watching tv. When I watch tv, my mind still wanders in a million different directions. When I read, I'm only focused on what's going on with the book. I love it! What a way to forget about everything!

I'm watching the series! What a great one! I love how the game's go back and forth. Phillies, Yankees, Yankees, now Phillies! I love it! I'm still for the Yankees because I want to see what the city turns into after they win! It's going to be one crazy phenomenon! I want to be a part of it! Baseball is my favorite sport. It's the All-American dream of sports! I was in Chicago when the Sox won the series, and now I'm in NYC where there is a potential for the same thing. I think I'm their secret good luck charm! I should get compensation for this! I would even settle for a date with a player! ;)

Note to self: When you give someone advice, maybe you should listen to yourself and really hear what you're saying. What you tell your friends is often something that pertains to your life. Take your own advice. You are your best critique. And you are ultimately the one who knows you best and knows what is best for you. When you tell your friend, "You deserve someone who doesn't treat you like crap. Don't put up with his crap. He's not worth it. You deserve someone who thinks you're the world!" And she says, "Yeah, he thinks the sun shines out of my ass, already." Haha! Listen to yourself and realize that you're in the same situation, and you should probably listen to yourself more! Hello, sister! You're not an idiot! I know it's easier said than done, but wake up to reality! I know we have all been here! Do you think we will ever really listen to ourselves? =) Probably not. But it's always nice to think that we do, and that we really do try! ;)

Day 35

October 11, 2009

As I'm walking to my date this morning, I pass a street festival. I love this city and all of their street fairs! The streets are packed with people and the smell of food and spices surround you as you walk past. My date is at The MoMA. It's the Museum of Modern Art. I find it interesting; him, I don't think so much. =) In order to really enjoy modern art, I think you need to have a huge appreciation for art. I mean huge! It's very eccentric, wacky, and really just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But it's so fascinating!

One exhibit is a blank piece of construction paper, framed. That's it. If this tells you anything. I feel bad because I'm pretty sure he isn't diggin' it at all. I could be wrong, but the, "I could do without the painting and sculpture floor," comment kind of gave it away! ;) So, we leave and head to lunch. We go to a brewery where I have an interesting glass of beer. I'm not a fan of beer, but this one is infused with raspberries, pomegranate, and champagne. Sounds delicious? It is.

After the date, what better place to go than the street fair? They have so much stuff! Jewelry, clothing, food, the best fruit smoothie ever made! ;) I buy a beautiful scarf for the price of only $5! I love it! I'm one of the cheapest people alive, so places like this are right up my alley! I also make my first H&M purchase here in the city. That store is amazing! I buy a blazer for my job interview tomorrow! Again, please keep your fingers crossed! It's a second interview for the marketing company--tomorrow, I get to shadow an executive all day to see if I'd be a good fit! You bet I'm going to make myself be a good fit! I need a dang job! ;)

Congrats to the Yankees for making the Series! It's crazy here in the city! Sorry to my little brother who is a major Twins fan! I love A-Rod and he always gives me crap for it. Well, bro--thanks to him, the game got going! ;)

The rest of the day is spent relaxing and watching my favorite TV show: Brothers & Sisters. If you have never seen this show, watch it! They kind of remind me of my family! =) They are absolutely crazy, controlling, and opinionated. They drive you nuts, but in the end, they are always there for each other! And Kevin and Scotty, Rebecca and Justin--so cute in love! It's what I like to aspire to! More so like Rebecca and Justin just because that's the way I swing, but I think Scotty is so sweet! Tonight's episode is a total insight into what my family would do! It's great!

Note to self: Don't assume everyone in New York asks for your number because they "want to help you." When you go into a restaurant and the manager gives you his number and tells you to text him so he can "ask" around to his buddies for jobs, don't text him. He doesn't really want to help you. He just wants to hit on you. Which is obvious when he won't leave you alone! Why can't he be tall, dark, and handsome? Why does he have to be short, stubby, and bald? Damn! Everytime!
