Day 147 - Day 148

January 28 - January 29, 2010

Thursday: Another crazy day! I left my house at 8 a.m. and returned at 1:15 a.m. The two cups of coffee I chugged this morning, helped me get through the day. So, restaurant week night was amazing!!!! We went to a restaurant called, Aquavit. It's in Midtown on the east side of town. So much fun! We ate a three-course meal! We talked! We laughed! Great night! The ambience is really great! It's simplistic in architecture, with clean and crisp lines. Very minimal in color, but warm and comforting. The food is delicious and the service, fantastic!

Great girls night out! Every week, Kara, Jen and I go out! It was a very Sex & the City-esque evening. They are the best! Jen is Asian who gets drunk after taking two sips of red wine--she's so fun! Kara is down out hysterical--so much fun and full of such great personality! I'm on the quieter side...until you get to know me! Then watch out! I know how to have a good time! All-in-all, we work well together! If I could put Sex & the City characters to us, I would say Jen is Charlotte; Kara is definitely Samantha; and I would be Carrie.

Did you know your taste palette changes every once in a while? I didn't know that--I think it's interesting! I never liked artichokes, but tonight, I had an artichoke, cream-based soup and I loved it! However, I can for sure tell you, I will NEVER like mushrooms! It's fungus--I can't do it. They taste like the bottom of a shoe.

Friday: I was pretty much in la-la land all day. I am so tired from working 13 hour days the last few days, I pretty much just exist. I basically just go through the motions; nothing phases me; and I don't really think about anything, except my pillow and warm apartment. I have to go to the restaurant tonight to request off a weekend in April for Maddie's bachelorette party. Oh, I can't wait! We're going to Kansas City! They have this fantastic 80's-themed bar, called Shark Bar, I think...but it's so much fun!

When I get home, I talk to my dad for a while, then I fall asleep. I wake up and jump on the Internet and stumble across a couple of songs--ironic, really. It's so weird how songs pertain to life, basically to a T. You know what I'm talking about. You hear a song and instantly, you can relate in some way. Let me explain.

New York City is full of millions of people, but it can be lonely at the same time. Over the summer, my first love and I broke up. Since he was my first real love, I was devastated. Naturally. But I actually did really good about getting over it. Until I moved out here. I've explained the dating scene here--drinks, sex, rinse, and repeat, is the basic pattern for most people. I'm not most people. So, since moving here, I've actually had time to sit and think about that relationship for once. I can honestly say, I've never been so skitzo in my whole entire life! Ha! It's crazy what love does to ya'! But I suppose that's how it goes. If not, then I'm just plain nuts! ;) But check out these two songs.

Weird, huh? Check this out. Ha! True statement. Sucker! He's the one missing out! ;) I may not be the most exciting person in the world, but I can tell you, I am pretty darn entertaining sometimes!

I have done nothing tonight, but sleep and write this blog. I'm so exhausted, so I'm going back to bed. Goodnight, all! ;)

Day 146

Ohhhh today. What a day. Here is my pattern: home to work all day-run home to get clothes-go to west village for a meeting-back uptown to work until close-then back home. Nuts! My menu for the day: a Grande bold coffee for breakfast, cupcake for lunch, a half a cookie for dinner. I'm so tired, I don't even feel like eating. However, this morning I'm thinking. You know those stir sticks at Starbucks? How germy do you think those things are? Think of how many people put their hands on them a day! Tons! And you have no idea where those hands have been! Then you take one and stir your cream and sugar with it. So gross! I decide, I am no longer going to use these convenient wooden stir utensils.

So, my Gmail has been way off lately. My grandma sent me an e-mail Monday morning, and I got it today. The e-mail said it was sent "22 hours" ago. So, if you sent me an e-mail and got no response, more than likely, I didn't get it! First the phone, now the e-mail! My lines of communication are slowly taking a turn for the worse! ;)

We all love summer and look forward to it when October hits! Well, this year, we can also look forward to the clothes and accessories! The styles for summer and so fun! Flowy, flirty, light, and airy! The colors could be a bit brighter, but I only see a certain selection, so maybe there are more brights out there! In the next couple of days, BHG is going to be getting in so many new things, I can't wait to see it all! And I organize it all and make account for it when it comes in, so I love to check everything out! The jewelry is awesome! Funky rings, big bracelets, chunky necklaces! So awesome! I play dress up! ;)

I have a plan of getting into bed by ten o'clock tonight. My hopes are quickly shot down at 10:30 this morning when my co-worker calls me and asks me to fill in for her. She is really sick--poor thing. Having the flu is no fun!!! I don't mind filling in. It's extra money!! Whew! So, I have to leave my internship early so I can go home and get black clothes--and I'm in a hurry! So, of course, I power walk home. But you know how it is--I power walk the whole avenue, then have to stop. The light changes. Then I take off and power walk. Then have to hault. The light turns red. This happens for eight avenues! That equals out to 1.5 miles! Can you believe I walk at LEAST three miles everyday?? It's good exercise, I suppose.

So, I'm still in a hurry and head to the train station. I swear, I walk through the subway for what feels like twenty minutes to find my dang train! I'm getting really nervous because I don't want to be late! I hate being late! It's my biggest pet peeve! Unless you have a really good reason for being late, there's no excuse for it. It's so irritating. If I'm late, you know there's a good reason! Anyways, the subway is interesting tonight. I see a drag queen, a really good band, some pretty B.A. break dancers! Once off my 14th Street exit, I'm even more flustered because I can't find my way out. I pass the exit because I'm distracted by a homeless, drunk man who is making art with his motorized scooter on pieces of white, computer paper. His heads down, flopping from side to side, as he puts the scooter in drive. Then reverse. Then drive. Then reverse. Haha! The art is very...interesting...to say the least.

I get to the west village and instantly fall in love. It's totally my scene-- it's clean, it's trendy, it's neighborhood-y! It's fantastic! If I get a job here, this is where I'm moving!!! The streets are cobblestone and the restaurants remind you of your favorite restaurant on the corner in your home town. Places where everyone knows everyone. In the city, neighborhoods like these are great to be a part of! The meeting went well!

When I first get to work, it's a bit chaotic. Then it slows way down. I'm standing at the host stand, when all of a sudden I smell fire. Again...me with fire. My space heater isn't what smells. It's not Beba in the coat room. My manager comes up and I say, "Do you smell something?" My manager's response, "Um, yeah, the lady on 23 lit her hair on fire!" Hahahahaha! Oh my God, that's hysterical!!! Her and her man were leaning over the table, smoochin' on each other, and poof! Up in flames!

I can tell you right now, I'm going to need some serious coffee tomorrow! I'm going to stock up all day! It's going to be a long one! I have my internship, then the restaurant, then out to dinner for restaurant week! Whew hew! We're trying Scandinavian food. Never had it, so I'm pretty excited! Then back on Friday morning at the internship. I'm only 25, but feel like I'm 60 right now! This is no good, people!

Note to self: "Never save something for a special occasion. Everyday in your life is a special occasion!" When your co-worker tells you about how her relative was killed in 9/11 and left behind his wife, new born baby, and two other kids, it makes you appreciate your family. When you find out your neighbor from back home has been diagnosed with leukemia, it makes you thankful you and your loved ones are healthy! When you find out an old friend's brother is diagnosed with the same kind of cancer, it makes you want to call the ones you love and tell them what they mean to you. When another kid from your high school commits suicide, you wonder what was going on in their mind.

Tragedies happen everyday and you don't want to look back and say, "Only if I would have told them this." or "I wish I would have told them this." or "If they only knew how I really felt." Always express how you feel because when it's too late. It's too late. Put yourself out there. Tell the people you love in your life how you really feel. What if you never get the chance to do so? What if tomorrow is too late? You never know. Then you'll be mad at yourself. Why do you want regrets?

Never go to bed mad at someone. Never leave the house mad at someone. Never hang up the phone in a fight. Life is too short. Time is too precious. My goal for you for the day: call someone today and tell them how much they mean to you. Even to just say, "Hey, hope your day's great! I love you." Just randomly. That's the best kind of phone call! Trust me, the person on the other end of the phone will appreciate it! Heck! Call three people! Just appreciate the people who love you and are a big part of your life and who you are!

Oh my goodness how time flies! It's already the end of January! Where did January go?!?! I don't know, but all I'm excited about right now is that I have the weekend off of work! Whew hew! I am exhausted! I haven't been getting to bed before at least 1:30 every morning and getting up at 7 to get ready for work.

So, here in New York City, it's restaurant week! What this means is that restaurants, where you usually pay around $60+ per person, now only costs you $35 for a three-course meal! How awesome is this?? We're taking full advantage of this on Thursday--dressing up and everything! If anyone wants to take me for a nice, romantic evening out this weekend, just let me know! ;)

On that note: I have found another husband. Ever since I've moved here, I've been proposed to twice, and now I have a "pre-arranged marriage" as Ken likes to put it. Oh my God! I just thought of this! He's Ken and I could totally be his Barbie! Haha! I'm tall and blonde! And big boobs are only $5,000 away! ;) He comes up to me tonight and says, "If I ask you a question, will you tell me the honest to God's truth?" I say, "Yeah." He says, "Are you in love with me?" I say, "Of course I am! Are you in love with me?" "Of course!" He says, "It's done then. We have a pre-arranged marriage!" Ken is hysterical and a huge jokester!

At Better Homes & Gardens today, my editor forwards me this e-mail she found on the Internet. Read the story! It is so funny! And so sad at the same time to know there are girls who are really like this out in the real world! It's so sad to think this is the future of our country! Article. Tomorrow is going to be a fun day! All of the summer collections are coming in, so I get to see what's in for Summer 2010! Ahhh....summer! Won't you hurry up and get here?? I'm sorry for those living in Iowa, having to endure the horrendous snow! That's why you don't live there. ;)

Since moving out here, I have become a huge fan of vintage inspired clothing. Check out this website I found a while back! It's called ModClothing. It's fabulous! And the prices are way reasonable! Then, my editor told me of another vintage-inspired store, Ruche. It's also a great site! If you have time, ladies, look around! The dresses are my favorite! Women are never wrong! It's what some like to call, women's intuition. Trust it. Women know what's up and what's really going on. Whether they say it out loud or not is another thing. I've become rather good at reading in between the lines. Always remember, sometimes the less you say, the more meaning it takes on. If you look deep in your heart and you can give yourself an answer about something without thinking twice about it, you're more than likely correct! What you do with this information, is up to you. My advice: be careful what you say and do. Make sure you're 100 percent set on what comes out of your mouth. You can't take it back. And people don't forget it either. Always put yourself in the position where you are in the right. Being in the wrong causes nothing but problems for you!
