Brett Visit: Day 3

Happy Birthday Ashley! We get kind of a late start this morning. Were both feeling the aftermath of birthday parties.  I was going to make some coffee but Ashley has no coffee filters, awesome. So we head to get our rent a car, but we some how wound up at the hot wheels store. So we head out for Foxboro. And our trusty GPS decides it’s too early to work. So we have to call mom and she gives us directions. Ashley is the worst driver in America. And having her talk on the phone and drive at the same time, I thought if I jumped off a bridge I would have a better chance of living. She bump drafts off of the car in front of her, and drives about a quarter inch from guard rails, and is in a nutshell, reckless. She went to the driving school of Danica Patrick.

We finally get on the right path. The drive isn’t too bad. When we arrive to Foxboro there is a line to get off of the highway. And it is four hours before game time. Foxboro is a small old fashioned town, I kinda liked it. We pass up on parking and go to a local sub shop, get a case of beer and were official fans. It was fun even though it was only the two of us. We did have to pay 40 bucks for parking. That was a little outrageous. We head into the game and the stadium is huge. Our seats were high and we got all of the wind. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. It was cold and windy, just like a football game should be. I loved it. I couldn’t believe I was watching the Patriots play. Tom Brady had a great game. It was sweet to watch their unique offense in person. Brady drops back and throws short passes to Wes Welker and then hit Randy Moss in the end zone. The defense had four interceptions and one pick six. The best part of the game was when there was 36 seconds left, the Patriots had the ball up by ten. I look at Ashley and said, “Well this is the last play, they will take a knee and its over.” I was wrong. They line up in shotgun and throw it deep. Haha, I thought that was hilarious. It was cool to see the difference between the east coast and the Midwest.

The Midwest sporting events are usually calm and don’t get to crazy. 80% of the people there were decked out in Pats gear and were all die hard fans. They live and breathe for the Patriots. Everyone was there at least 5 hours before kickoff. The beer is even different there. In Iowa you will find Bud, Miller, and Coors, and on occasion a Sam Adams. They did have those there but they also had like 6 Sam Adams and Guinness everywhere. And the lines were longer then the food stands. We yelled and cheered the whole game it was great. And we got to watch these two jets fans get kicked out because the fans were yelling at them so bad. When they were escorted out, the three sections around them boo’d the loudest boo I've ever heard, it was hilarious. I thought that was awesome. We stayed until the clock read 0:00 like the real fans.

Leaving was time consuming we were in park for an hour. And it took even longer to get out. I love road trips because you have some of the best conversations. And sometimes the ride is one of the more fun parts. When we got back to Manhattan, we got off in a bad neighborhood. And I mean the Ghetto. I was a little scared I can’t lie. I know it was Ashley’s Birthday and I felt bad that we had to spend her day at a football game that I wanted to go to. But overall I had an amazing time at the game and I will never forget it.

Day 77

November 22, 2009

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! I’m 25, yay! (Not really. That means I’m closer to 30.) Yikes! Then I realize, 25 is great and I have a feeling this year is going to be my year! Who wouldn’t want to be 25, single, and living in New York City? Okay, I realize there are those who wouldn’t, but let me tell ya’, I’m going to love it and take advantage of it!

Anyways, moving on. It’s game day! Sunday-funday in Massachusetts at the New England Patriots football game! We rent a car. A Chevy Aveo, nonetheless. One of the first things out of Brett’s mouth, “Jesus Christ, Ashley. I forgot what a terrible driver you are. We’re gonna die. This is ridiculous.” Lol! I love it! The drive isn’t that bad. However, not driving for three months does tend to make one a little rusty. I thought texting and walking was hard. Now I know why they make texting and driving illegal. Brett and I saw our lives flash before our eyes probably twenty times today!

We get to Foxborough and the town sucks! There is nothing there, but the stadium and pretty nice mall they built around it. But who cares? The stadium was awesome! We get beer and a sub sandwich. Perfect for tailgating, right? Well, there was just two of us. Oh well…tailgating is tailgating! However, I will tell you the Bud Light was the worst thing I tasted, considering the amount of alcohol I consumed the previous day.

Who pays $50 for parking?!? Yeah, I’m not kidding! Fifty bucks! We found a place for only $40, but still! That’s a month’s worth of Starbucks I just handed for a lot full of dirt! We get to the stadium and Brett’s face, once again, was priceless. I loved it! In order to get into the stadium, they basically do a strip search!

Our seats, although high, were incredible! You could see everything! Check out the pictures below. Watch for Brett’s blog on his take of the game. He will do a much better job at explaining everything than I will. I had a blast! We ate a really good meatball sandwich and a funnel cake. Everything was perfect. The weather was your typical chilly football night, the Patriots had some sick interceptions, Jets fans got kicked out of our section for being obnoxious and flipping everyone off, and Brett and I were probably the most enthusiastic people in our section. Naturally. We stayed until the clock hit zero! We were the die-hard fans!

It took us about an hour and a half to get out of the parking lot. Thank God for Esther—she is our GPS system. She looped us out and around, away from the ridiculous traffic! Once we got back into the city, Esther decided she didn’t want to work anymore. So, of course, since it’s me, and for some reason I always get myself into these situations, we end up in the ghetto of NYC. Literally. The part of town I was told to stay away from when I first moved here. Brett and I kind of got that vibe considering it was 12:30 a.m. and there were hoodlums walking around the street staring at us. I mean, come on. Two white kids, driving a Chevy Aveo at 12:30 a.m.? I doubt they were looking to attack. They were too busy laughing at us, knowing we’re lost and scared out of our minds! =)

We finally make it home and we both crash, hard core! Running on about three hours of sleep makes you realize how great a bed and a pillow are!

Note to self: When your mom packs you hand and feet warmers for the football game because she knows you will more than likely need them, try not to forget them in your apartment. They would come in handy when it’s so cold outside, you can see your breath, and you are shivering because you’re so cold. It’s just a thought. Sure, you have gloves, but when your brother does not, they would have come in handy. Just a thought…don’t tell him mom packed them. Because then when he continues to make smart ass comments to you about forgetting them, you could have completely avoided this by keeping your mouth shut. Always think before you do anything. It really does wonders for you!
