Day 24

September 30, 2009

My parents leave today at 7:30 a.m. It’s really sad—I cry, of course. I’m pretty emotional when it comes to saying good-bye. I’m not good at it, what so ever! I won’t see them until Christmas. Weird. I end up taking a nap for about an hour after they leave. My own bed is so comfortable! A new down mattress pad with accompanying comforter and pillows—ahhh….relaxation!

Work is fun today! I do not really feel like talking to anyone today. You know how you have those moments—this is bad considering it’s the main part of my job. Maybe this is why my sales are down tonight—oops! A guy in the elevator says to me about the servers, “Well, they really work for their money…not that you don’t…” What? I work for my money too, sir. What do you think I do? Just stand there and talk to other employees about cute guys that come into the store, or the latest show on TV, or watch a drug dealer steal Elmo’s head and run around Times Square wearing it? Haha! Okay, maybe you’re right.

A friend of mine tells me tonight, NYC is predicted to have one of the worst winters in ten years. Of course it would be! I bring Iowa weather everywhere I go! I can’t escape it! Just when I am told winters aren’t bad and I get my hopes up, this happens. I swear, for someone who hates cold weather as much as I do, I am sure being punished for trying to escape it!

I am told tonight I am a magnet for men—this is not arrogance. Oh no! If you could only see the men that approach me—it’s not something to brag about. Why can’t the beautiful man who keeps looking come over and talk to me? And what is up with good-looking men dating not-so-attractive women? Not saying that I’m a supermodel, but some of these girls have been sprinkled with ugly powder, one too many times. And they’re NOT nice! I would totally appreciate a guy like they have!

Instead, I get the old man who talks to me for 15 minutes about the end of the world and how he has a plan to fix it. He likes me though because “I really listen; therefore, I’m blessed. ”He can’t talk to Clinton because of crooked cops and politicians as a priority; or talk to Hillary—she’s a woman. Hi, sir! I’m a woman, so please don’t insinuate women aren’t smart enough to make major political decisions. Clearly, the men making the decisions aren’t really making smart ones either, in my opinion. A woman needs to get in there and clean up the men’s’ mess, like we always do in life! ;) I know Clinton isn’t President, but he isn’t too keen on Obama—he thinks he’s the initiator to the end of the world.

It’s so nice to come home to furniture! I have a couple of things in the works with my apartment, so pictures will come in the next week or two. I know you all want to see it, but I want to make sure it’s exactly how I want it, so you will be impressed! So far so good though! I actually will be getting a great night’s sleep tonight. No more snoring! Yes!!! But I do miss the company!

Note to self: Remember to thank your parent’s everyday for everything they have done for you. Think of something nice, but not too elaborate, to do for them to show your appreciation. Make them a card, send them something NYC, make copies of the pictures from the weekend and put them in the mail. A simple, but personal gift that lets them know you are thinking about them and appreciate absolutely everything they have done for you—and how you cannot do what you are doing without their help, guidance, and unconditional support. Gifts do not necessarily show gratitude, but the thoughtfulness and the effort put forth to completing the gift will be greatly appreciated by the people who allow you to live out your dream!
