Day 16

September 22, 2009

So, I must admit--I was one of those New Yorkers who needs their fair share of coffee this morning. I have not been sleeping well. I bet it's the fluffiness of my air mattress and the bright morning sun that shines in my face at 6:30 a.m.! I told myself this morning, you will be in bed by ten o'clock tonight. Now, I'm pushing for 11:30.

I will say, the morning starts off great. I have a revelation. When I open my door to test the temperature, it feel cold. So, I dress warm--when I start walking, I get really hot. So, I decide it must be the tall buildings--they block the wind; therefore, making it feel warmer out. Don't shake your head--it just takes me longer to figure certain things out.

Thank goodness for Spanx! I wore a tighter fitting skirt today, which by the way, I did put together quite the ensemble this morning. The Spanx made my J. Lo size butt cheeks look so tight, I feel like a million bucks! I should send them a thank you letter. No panty lines or jiggles. I need to pass them out on the street--some women here need to wear them. I'm not saying I stare, but if I happen to randomly look down, sometimes those Jello-jigglers just bounce all up in your business. Not pretty.

I have to LOL this morning. I'm actually doing it right now too. As I walk to work, I wait to cross the street. A tiny Asian woman, talking on her phone, apparently cannot wait. A cab comes racing through the intersection, rapidly honking at her. She notices the cab to her left, whips around to her right, and trips over herself! Her face: priceless. Her eyes were as big as the stoplights, and her mouth was open about three feet wide. Where's the camera when you need it?!

So, I get home from work and am really bored. I decide to take a picture of myself in my new favorite T-shirt I got in Boca Raton a couple weeks ago. Check it out below! Awesome, right? I see a guy wearing black cut-off shorts, hot pink scrunch socks, and black dance-looking shoes. I want to ask if he would like to borrow my tee. He is totally "Made in the Eighties!"

I think I missed the memo of "walk like a senior citizen day." After work, I decide to go to the Home Depot. This is a good time for a little exercise--so, I start a brisk walk. It only lasts for fifteen seconds--everyone takes their time, stops and looks at the tall, tall buildings in awe. Ya' know folks, you've seen one, you've seen them all! I bet they all look similar up there, huh? Cancel the workout.

On my walk home, my friend since 3rd grade, Greg, calls me. We're talking when a guy whistles at me--Greg finds this funny. "I feel like you are in the big city. I feel like the most random stuff happens to you there." Although whistling is a common occurence out here, he is an honest man. Random stuff does happen, but like I told him, it makes for interesting stories for me to blog about! He was most impressed with the Middle Eastern man at the convenient store. All I want is "postcard" stamps. I don't even know if these things exist, because they look at you like an idiot. "Sixty cents," he says to me. "For one stamp!" I reply. "Oh yes ma'am. They charge me 50, so I charge you 60." Okay, Apu. I'm not paying that for one stamp! Thanks though! (I didn't say that.)

You guys will be proud! Yesterday, I talked about sweets. Well, I can't help it--I love 'em! So, I went to the store to buy some Oreos and more Cheese Nips. But guess what I walked out with? "Fit" vanilla-almond granola, with low fat yogurt. It's so good and completely solves my sugar fix! All for the low price of 45 calories! Things are looking trim for my love handles! ;)

As I'm ready to close this blog, I hear Tarzan outside my window. I don't realize I'm so lucky to have him living in my building! I'm sure glad he made his famous, "AaaAaaaAahhh" sound. Now, I know who to go to if ever I'm in danger!

When a good friend from home tells you this, then you read it; it makes you realize how true it really is. Don't rush through life--you never know what can happen, or how your life can change by being patient and standing still for two seconds. Appreciate "walk like a senior citizen day." Take in everything around you--why would you want to miss a beat? Enjoy the moment that has been given to you--many don't get the opportunity to do so.
