We're on a mission to find curtains for my incredibly long window! We walk everywhere! And...come home with nothing, except a Bebe belt (which is great!) and leftover food! I walk them from 43rd St. to 33rd St.; 33rd St. to 58th St.--they are exhausted! I'm even exhausted! We come to the consensus that after a while, walking isn't so bad because our feet are so numb, we can no longer feel the pain!
You know how they say you turn out just like your mother? It's so true! My mom can no longer complain about my grandma being slow. She is just as bad! My dad says my mom is only 20 years away from being her mother; so I say, "Great. That means I only have 20 years until I'm like my mother." =) I told my mom when she gets to be grandma's age and is just as slow, we are investing in a motorized scooter!
I take my parents to an NY deli and they loved it! Plus, the guy didn't charge me for my sandwich! Being the nice, Iowans my parents are, my mom goes, "Should I say something?" Heck no, man! You take free where you can get it! I say, "He shouldn't have been in such a hurry to get you checked out. It's his own fault!" Patience is a virtue, and this guy lost out on money because of his hyper-activeness. Sucker!
We saw Jesus in Times Square today! He is doing modern dance poses--very talented that Mr. Christ is. We walk a little in Times Square, but the rain doesn't make it that enjoyable. We're going back Tuesday! Central Park is beautiful, as usual. You know how I tell my parents to pay attention here? My dad gets a little eager today at the NYC fast-paced lifestyle--he almost walks in front of a few cabs and in the park, he steps in horse crap! Ha! I warned him! Then he goes to look at pastries in the window in Times Square and knocks his head right into the glass! ;)
Junior's is a restaurant off Times Square that supposedly has the BEST cheesecake in town. It is very good! Dad gets strawberry, I get blueberry, and mom gets red velvet cake. The waiter tells us they are big pieces, and we can't eat the whole thing. Little does he know, the Toncar's know how to eat! We don't really finish them, except dad, but we come close!
We finally decide to head back to the apartment. We have a big day of moving tomorrow! The 24-hour diner across the street is very good! The sandwiches are huge and dad gets his beer! Mom stays back to finish my laundry. That's right, even though I'm living in one of the most independent cities in the world, my mom still does my laundry! Awesome!
Note to self: Appreciate your parents! When they go out of their way and spend extra money to help you out, be grateful! Don't take them for granted because many do not have parents that would do this for them. No matter how much they irritate you, still give them the respect they deserve. Even if your dad calls someone in your building a "dumbass," don't get too mad--he's just trying to help you out. Don't be the girl on the corner who screams at her dad and says, "I don't have a fucking clue!" Being a princess like that is not an attractive trait. Your parents love you unconditionally, so don't take advantage of that--embrace it!
