Day 61

November 6, 2009

The last couple of days, Iowa has been all over the tv out here! They've been shown on The Today Show--once were visitors, and the other lady was a call-in from Altoona. I wonder if I know who it is?!?! The third mention was on Jimmy Fallon Late Night. He mentioned that a cat in Iowa has been struck with the swine flu. Go figure. Only in Iowa would a cat get the swine flu and people report about it. Isn't there anything else going on--possibly more exciting--that we can talk about?? Let's step it up out there people!

Work is a long day today--noon to eight. In between those times, we have two people from Project Runway dine with us and Mr. Jacko--the head of the NYPD dine with us! Most people do not know who he is, but when he walks in, I mention that he looks really familiar--"I think he is a cop, or something." I say to the other hostess. Everyone looks at me like I'm crazy! Then...I turn out to be right! I knew it! Never underestimate me--even though I'm from Iowa, I do know a thing or two! ;) And how awesome would it be, to be that bad ass? Pretty freakin' cool, I think!

The cold weather here, I have a feeling, is going to do a number on me. I'm already getting sick again. Boo! I'm not used to being around cold weather like this. Last year, I was in Florida during the cold season, so I'm definitely NOT used to Mother Nature's cold shenanigans!

Note to self: Learn how to make home-made cornbread. The Jiffy box does all right, but when Chef makes it for lunch, you realize the potential for an amazing side dish! Jiffy is no longer on my shopping list. Their slogan may be, "America's Favorite," but it is certainly no longer mine. It's funny how you grow up in the Midwest, but have an appetite for Southern food, the lifestyle qualities of the East Coast, and the desire to be in warmer weather. You're a little bit of a mut! ;) But mark my words, someday,  I will have the best of all three worlds!
